I guess you think the same that a name for a car is just a name? Chevy, Dodge, and Ford are smart they know to sale cars. The name means a lot , mustangs will always be a selling name just like camaros, and chargers

I think the Monte Carlo no longer served a place in the lineup. There's a point where too many models are present. In my opinion there hasn't been enough differentiation between the Malibu and impala but looks like its changing come 2014.

Yea true, Except for the hardcore Monte Carlo fan but yea I really like the new malibu's. FenwickHockey65 said that they have a lot of issues though I think Chevy got the Malibu look right this time. Impala now looks like the Buick though . Need to look like one car in GM lineup I guess

They're nice sure, but the 3rd and 4th generations seem like pretty much any other large sedan from the time. The Impala SS is largely an exception -as SS models ought, to the Impala legacy. GM is building the Impala for the role that it always had: be a large Chevrolet sedan. So what if its FWD? Its not a sports sedan, never has been.
You are correct in your assumption that most people remember those cars but those were not before the Impala SS. Impala was in SS trim in the 60s. To me these are the most beautiful Impalas ever built.

Yup I liked all of the 60's impalas my favorite is the 1961 used be the 64 when I was young not knowing anything because everybody else liked the 64 impala but I think their boring since I was 11. I like them though just better years. That's crazy every year the impala was made different how could they do that

It doesn't look like a Buick at all. Impala is on Premium Epsilon II, LaCrosse is on LWB Epsilon II. Impala is a six window sedan, LaCrosse is a four window sedan. Front fascias are different, rear fascias are different, side profiles are different, EVERYTHING is different besides the LFX engine and 6 speed automatic.

Not even close.

Sorry, I forgot to include 94-96 before Impala SS. Yes, there were Impala SS's in the 60s -on both the 2nd & 3rd generation of the car. In fact, I think the Impala was the first Chevy to have the SS badge some 50 years ago. But that said, the classic Impala SS was an addition to the lineup. I don't know what their sales were like, but I imagine they were a small portion of the millions of Impalas sold over the decade.

Other than general size & shape, about the one detail that I can spot as being shared might be the little crease in the rear fender. Even then, its only similar not the same. And plenty of cars have a little bit of detail on the fender in one form or another.

Interestingly enough that appears to have been carried over from the 9th gen. It's not as prominent but it's there.
