Any of you nerds between NV and TX, be on the lookout for a Bear. Rare Bear is on a flatbed and headed to Nelson Ezell's shop in TX.

Well you could google "How does I fly teh planez"..

Jeppesen Test Study materials

ASA Test Prep Series

Find the ones you want, search them on amazon used. Waaaaay cheaper that way. As a mechanic, I used ASA because they ripped questions right from older tests (they change questions every year). Jeppesen is a bit pricey though imo but it's like paying for brand X of headers when the off brand Y is cheaper just because brand X can charge more due to their name being slapped on the side.

Basically as a pilot you have multiple levels and ratings, much like if you got an endorsement for riding a motorcycle or driving a big rig on your drivers license.

Sport Pilot: Most limited - can only fly to a certain altitude and in certain weather conditions
Private Pilot: What everyone goes for and doesn't have all the limitations that a Sport Pilot would
Commercial Pilot: What the hotshots in the pilot seats at Delta and United have. Opens the gates to fly almost anything.

Then you have ratings:
Instrument: Allows you to fly in say cloudy or inclimate weather by rating you to fly on 'instruments' aka gauges alone
Multi Engine: Fly a plane with more than one engine
Sea Plane: Fly a plane capable of landing and taking off from water
Multi Engine Sea Plane: You can fly a sea plane with more than one engine
Rotorcraft: Fly a helicopter
Turbine: Fly anything that's powered by a jet turbine engine

There's also type certifications that go with certain airplanes as well. That's more found in the larger more complex aircraft like the 747 and Bell Jet Ranger helicopter.

Do note that the avenue I took, An A&P Mechanic (airframe and powerplant ratings), are sometimes trained or reimbursed for some of their training fees with certain employers so that they can have their mechanics test and fly/ferry aircraft needing work without having to hire a full time pilot. Pay isn't as good and the jobs are getting sucked up quickly but when you can work both sides of the coin as pilot and mechanic, you become a much more versatile person in the industry. Also, keep in mind it's WHO you know, not what you know that will land you that job.

Guys and Gals, if you will please sign this petition I would appreciate it! Our college of business dean no longer supports Auburns aviation program and is not willing to hire the faculty and staff needed to keep our accreditation!

Signed. That's just disgusting, regardless of the field of study.

I wonder why they don't scrap'em and sell the scraps. Seems like there would be a decent chunk of change they could recoup. Must not be cost effective...

It's not. Also certain portions can't be recycled due to asbestos or other substances that are considered toxic these days. Other planes aren't retired so much as they're placed in a form of long term storage or used as a source of parts (such as the A-10).

Other planes have been smelted to prevent parts from existing like the F-14. Prevents Iran from having a parts source, and yes they did steal parts while the Tomcat was an active duty airframe..
