FWD. FWD? That's it. I have officially given up on GM. If they think a serious luxury brand can be predominantly FWD, including its flagship model, and have its only RWD car be an "entry level" model that is the size of a 5 series, there is no way they can actually run a company that builds cars people want. At this point, I'm almost hoping they liquidate to preserve whatever ounce of dignity the American auto industry may have had left.

There is no way they can be relevant using FWD platforms from mainstream family sedans. If this trend continues, GM will look even worse than it did in the 80s-early 2000s. I'd rather have them go out with some great products as a victim of the economy rather than have them languish as an absolute farce, producing FWD yachts for Cadillacs. And where does fake CEO Henderson get off saying we won't get the G8 as a Chevy because he isn't a fan of badge engineering, but we get both the GMC Terrain and Chevy Equinox, and Buick and Cadillac versions of this Epsilon II sedan? This is simply embarrassing for me as an American.

And furthermore, we have even more proof that GM will keep producing the antiquated, craptastic Impala until their real CEO is either in his second term or out of office. The only way they could justify selling such an irrelevant product is through fleets sales, which is one of the things that brought them to bankruptcy in the first place! I supported the use of taxpayer dollars to save American manufacturing, but if this is their plan then my money is being wasted. British Leyland part II anybody?

Camaro and G8 = good platform sharing (sedan vs coupe, completely different engines and suspensions.) Lexus ES and Camry = weakly platform sharing (at least they are different market segments) G5 and Cobalt; Terrain and Equinox; DTS and Lucern; XTS and Regal; Firebird and Camaro; Tahoe/Suburban and Yukon; Colorado and Canyon; Enclave, Traverse, Acadia, and Outlook for the love of god = criminal rebadging. Assigning G8 to a new brand when its old brand is phased out = neither rebadging nor platform sharing. Henderson is an idiot/tool.

NOT RETAIL! Impala sales are almost entirely fleet, therefore profitless, therefore driving down resale values, therefore ABSOLUTELY WORTHLESS.

Unfortunately, FWD sedans sell. Look at the Accords and Camrys.
Personally, I like RWD sedans, but most buyers disagree with me. |

Accords and Camrys are not luxury flagship sedans! They are mainstream midsize family sedans, which should be FWD. BMW 7 series - RWD. Mercedes S Class - RWD. Infinity Ms - RWD. Lexus LS - RWD. Audi A8 - Dedicated, premium AWD. Do you see Audi building their flagship off of the Passat's platform? NO! Epsilon II is all well and good for a bread and butter mainstream family sedan, but it has no place underpinning a luxury flagship. Cadillac will never compete with the real luxury players with subpar platforms and with only 2 extra large cars, a CUV, and an SUV. GM promised they would be truly competitive, and Cadillac would take on the best from Europe. Instead they give us a cheap badge job from a low end platform. It is the son of Cimmaron. This is a slap in the face to everyone who gave GM a second chance.
Edit: Forgot Jaguar - RWD. Hyundai Genesis (and coming soon, Equus) - RWD! Even the Koreans figured this out faster than we did! And in their first attempt!

Terrain's market is current Envoy owners. Equinox's market is current Trailblazer owners and import crossover (RAV4, CR-V) owners.

[Screams into a pillow due to his inability to convey such a simple concept] The Envoy is the exact same damn vehicle as the Trailblazer. They are one in the same. The difference between them is exactly the same difference between the Cobalt and G5 or the Aveo and G3. The Envoy and Trailblazer market are exactly the same! Both cars target the exact same market, which is the small crossover crowd. They are competing only against each other and GM will not win one single additional customer by having both. They will simply split their marketing dollars in order to cannibalize each other's sales. The difference in pricing is minimal - $1,400, which is about the same as the G5 and Cobalt. And the price level is different solely because a few options on the Chevy are standard on the GMC. This is nothing more than a cheap badge job. You are categorically WRONG.
