I understand that these cars had entry level, family version but those roles are taken over by the Malibu, Impala, Cruze and Spark. The Chevelle is iconic because of the performance trim levels, not the 4 doors and wagons. There are people who like the 4 doors and wagons but I bet they are far out numbered by the people who would rather have an LS6 SS Chevelle.

If they use the 130R concept and call it a Camaro there will be rioting in the streets. Seriously, there's no way they would that. The backlash would be severe. If anything, they want to use the name for what it should have been used for and put it on the Chevy SS sedan. Chevelles were sedans too and Chargers have four doors now. It just makes sense.

did anyone actually read the article? the 130R would become the next Camaro , not the Chevelle.

Quote:
In other words, Chevrolet could bring a version of the Code 130R concept (pictured) into production, call it the Camaro, and then have the Chevelle act as a replacement for the Camaro as we know it today, meaning the 130R-based car would instead take the shape of a sort of Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ fighter as we earlier reported.

Actually the Chevelle was introduced with the four doors not two. While the Z16 options did not appear until its second model run the SS option was available for the two door in 64 but was not the main stay of the car. The car was built to compete with the Fairlane which also was a sedan, coupe, wagon, and like the chevelle inherited the dual purpose "truck" body. The Chevelle actually gave GM at platform to bring back the El Camino on. The Chevelle just like the Fairlane of the day was not considered when introduced to be a performance platform. But then again the Camaro was not either - it was introduced to get younger people to a brand.

I would expect Chevelle to be a flagship name that they want to protect, nothing more

I get that but GM has plenty of four door family cars. There's no point in resurrecting the Chevelle to make it a four door.

Thanks.

I'd love too see a modern interpretation of the 70 Chevelle.

I know you're not suggesting that personally, I'm just making a point. The haven't turned the Camaro into a 4dr if you see what I'm getting at.
