If Someone Was Stealing Your...

suv Would you fire a shot at them as they drove off? A local guy did, and he shot the car thief in the head as he drove away. Killed him. The 56 year old citizen did have a cwp and was carrying. He started his rig to warm up and stepped back inside, saw the thief get in his rig, ran back outside and fired. He thought he saw the thief point a weapon at him. The 25 year old thief has previous car thefts on his records, it wasn't his first time at the rodeo. IMO it serves him right!

What would you do? If you would have done the same thing, like his support page.

nope, I have OnStar, not worth going to jail over and all the expense that would be related to hiring an attorney, losing my job for being in jail, etc etc.

call OnStar let them track the vehicle and shut it down.. Also have Lojack in it in the event that OnStar doesn't work.

--- but I do support what the guy did, I have no use for thieves, in my youth I probably would have done the same.

but I learned my lesson by beating the snot out of someone and leaving him permently disabled, who tried to swindle my monther, while he was prosecuted for what he did to my mother and at least 7 other widows, I was also prosecuted and served 3 years in state prison for assault with intent to do great bodily harm..

hard to say what i would have done in the heat of the moment. probably would have shot the tires. or tried to. I would hate to shoot and kill someone over a car. would have a mess to clean up, and would you really want to drive around in a car you just blew someone's head off in? plus having to live with yourself, after taking a life, for something petty.

I wouldn't of shot at a moving vehicle in a neighbourhood for an SUV. This isn't the wild west or the movies. A kid is dead now and for what? He shot as the kid drove away......

Let me guess, the murderer is pleading self defense?

I probably would not shoot them out of fear of going to prison. Would I like to, yes. Do I feel that this stupid thief got what he deserves, yes! One less dead-beat on the street. Sorry if I offended some of you, but that is how I feel.

it's the chance you take when you decide to be a criminal, I personally believe that if things were still more like the old west, crime and idiots like this kid would be few and far between.

if everyone is armed and everyone knows that you risk being killed robbing someone, then criminals cease to exist to an extent.

criminals prey on the weak and inattentive, they don't prey on people they know can hurt them back..

and while this kid didn't car jack him, he has a history of GTA, and drugs. According to the article I read he has been doing life on the installment plan for quite some time, it just happens that this time around he paid the ultimate price.

As stupid as it is to kill someone over a vehicle, it is just as stupid IMO to be killed over a vehicle..

Well put.. he know possible repercussions when he decided to start stealing cars.. Would I have tried to kill him? Hell no. Do I think he got what was coming for him? Definitely, he's been charged before, he knows it's obviously wrong. Someone just caught him in the wrong place at the wrong time.

i don't think he shot, as the driver was driving away...

I feel that it is very important to point out that Gail felt his life was in immediate danger. Brandon raised his arm and turned around in a threatening way, and Gail thought he was armed.

We all agree in protecting our property and I have nothing against that. I just want people to realize the reason Gail fired was not to protect his vehicle but to protect his life.

sounds as if he was still in the driveway

If he was in the driveway and the guy did turn around (they won't know if he did or didn't), this guy will get away free no matter what.

I don't see a problem here honestly, if he felt he was being acted upon, it's self defense. Again, the guy stealing the car knew what he was getting into, as he's been there before.

While the shooter had no way of knowing this:

On previous occasions he had been found armed with a knife in encounters with police. A records check indicated that Kaluza-Graham has three past convictions for possession of stolen vehicles, one count of theft of a stolen vehicle and a single count of assaulting a law enforcement officer.

that speaks volumes about the criminal, and his past actions..

Not worth risking the life of the citizenry, my life, or the lives of my family if they happen to be there for any that possession I may have that someone may want. They can take it in my opinion, and I can and do carry anywhere. I can get that stuff back. I will only use deadly force if lives are in immediate danger, or the possibility of serious harm to anyone is probable.

IMO the "kid" got what he had coming to him. If you’re a criminal, they you need to live or die by the consequences of your actions.

As for the OP's question:
I carry whenever and wherever I can; my 1st "reaction" would be to shoot to kill. With that said, I'd have to be in the position to see what I would actually do.

I fully support the actions of the shooter!

also interesting:
Quote:
According to Spokane police, a man left his SUV running in his driveway near the intersection of Lee Street and Sharp Avenue. The owner of the SUV said Kaluza-Graham stole the Chevy Suburban. He was driving away when the owner shot him.
Quote:
The vehicle owner has not been identified by authorities. He's indicated he would like to tell his side of the story, but can't on the advice of his attorney.
this writer really sucks. So according to the police, the owner shot while the criminal was driving away. then later, the owner has not been identified by authorities (policemen aren't authorities??) and would like to tell his side, but can't...so then did the owner actually say he shot as the criminal drove away?

possible that the owner shot, wasn't an immediate kill shot, criminal then drove off, went unconscious, then died...and then ran into a tree...
