Some 2013 Challenger owners told to stop driving their cars
Owners of some 2013 Dodge Challengers are advised to contact their dealers, after the carmaker issued a recall.
DETROIT — Chrysler is recalling 4,459 model-year 2013 Dodge Challenger cars to address a potential short circuit that could cause a fire and took the rare step of telling owners to stop driving the affected cars. The automaker, controlled by Italy's Fiat SpA, said about 2,500 of the cars are in owners' hands, while the rest are still with dealers. Of the total with owners, about 2,100 were sold in the United States, about 350 in the Middle East and the rest in Canada, a company spokesman said. Affected owners are being advised to stop driving the cars and contact their dealers for loaner vehicles while repairs are completed, Chrysler said. Owners also should not park the cars in or near any structures. It is extremely rare for an automaker to warn drivers to stop driving their vehicles immediately. Last summer, Ford did that after it recalled about 11,500 model-year 2013 Escape SUVs with 1.6-liter engines due to the risk of an engine fire. Chrysler said the short circuit could cause a wire harness to overheat and possibly lead to a fire. The company said it is aware of seven such incidents, but none caused any injuries. The recall affects only 2013 Challengers built with V-6 engines during an eight-week period ended January 24, 2013, Chrysler said. http://news.msn.com/us/chrysler-reca...o-stop-driving

Faulty batch of parts. It happens.
I know a guy who's house burnt down when his wife's Lincoln town car caught on fire in the garage from a faulty ignition part. That was an expensive one for Ford. Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

It's good to see that the automaker used some common sense and didn't try to hide the defect.

I would say that Dodge had no choice but to go public. The liabilitity factor is too high.

And there's the other recall for rear axles being faulty on dodge trucks and dodge Suvs (I believe ranging from 2009 to 2013) because the pinion nut can come loose and the axle can lockup completely while you are on the highway at 60 mph. (not trying to cut-down Dodge but this story speaks for itself.)
Steer clear of ANY FULL SIZE Dodge truck you see on any highway. Especially the guy who floors it and passes everyone. he probably has no clue that his rear tires are about to come to a stand still. And When this happens the drive-shaft snaps off. (If you search online, there are many people who can share exact stories that this has happened.) Just imagine all of a sudden your rear tires do not turn while you are moving at 60mph. There are also stories online that this happened, and then the dealership refused to repair it. (this was before a federal investigation finally got started.) |

This is true, there was also a recall on 00ish W-bodies for the same thing, faulty wiring harness would catch on fire. Actually knew another person locally with a GTP too and they actually had it happen and the car burnt pretty bad under the hood.

There is a subtle difference between "bring your car back" and "don't park your car in or around a building"
Ford's issue years ago was such that the parked car could catch fire. There was an open circuit with the ignition off that could lead to a thermal event. So this is beyond the normal recall when you are 1) warned not to drive the vehicle and 2) warned not to park the car near a structure that could also catch fire if the vehicle does.
