Exactly. Way cheaper to start with a base Vette if your going to do an engine swap and all that.

Yeah but if you want a drag car you can just remove stuff to save weight. Taking a purpose built track car and removing the key features that make it a track car seems irrational to me.

You can remove things from a Z06 to save weight too. But with the Z06 you end up with a lighter car than you would if you started with a base model.

I'm sure they would have started with the factory drag Corvette, but such a car doesn't exist. So they went with the next best thing.
