People who stop smoking are quitters!

That's what a guy at work told me anyway when I told him he needs to stop smoking...

I can't relate, I never started... Everyone in my family smoke but me, and my father he quit 20 years ago...

Good luck irpq11!!!

Don't give in to the demon!

Understanding Why You Still Crave:

Many Quitsters wonder why, after being quit for a while, they still have craves. Sometimes they still smoke in a dream at night. Or sometimes they instictively reach for a pack of cigarettes (which of course they no longer possess) merely as a habit. Or out of the blue, with no obvious trigger, you get a desire to light up that fatal "Just 1". Why do we still get these craves?

We can remember how long we are quit but have a tendency to forget how long we smoked and how deep the smoking habit is imbedded in our subconscious. I have a nephew whose wife is a physical therapist. She works for The Kessler Institute with paraplegics. Christopher Reeve was a patient of hers. These spinal chord victims tell her that when they dream they see themselves as walking and running just as they did prior to their accidents which paralized them. Now these people had been walking and running for 10, 20, 30, or more years. Their subconscious mind still sees them as walking and running. Unfortunately they wake up to a tragic reality.

Well, if you've smoked for 10, 20, 30, or more years; is it any wonder your sunconscious mind still sees you as a smoker? How long have you been quit for; 1, 2, or 3 months? Even an entire year quit pales in comparrison to the number of years smoked for many Quitsters.

That is why you have to keep filling your mind with positive affirmations. The 2 greatest weapons you have at your disposal in dealing with the smoking habit are a positive mental attitude and determination. Nrt's and the Q are great weapons also, but constantly bombarding your conscious mind with "I cans" and "I wills" helps ward off the subcounscious mind's taking control of your thinking . Remember: Craves Are Not Orders - You Still Control Your Quit.

Just focus on quitting 1 day at a time. Your subconscious mind can accept 1 day of not smoking. If you get a crave, replace it with a positive thought and remain determined to stick with your quit NO MATTER WHAT and I'll.....

See You At The Top

Holly,

dude. take it from someone who has quit already. Just really decrease your smoking for now until your stuff gets here and then eliminate it. Don't get down because all these people here are telling you to quit cold turkey. If you can limit it to a few a day before your stuff gets here you should be able to quit completely without much problem.

I've allways been one who only needed a few days to stop or start something. I figure it would be such a waste to let those days go to waste but this sucks.

Don't let the smilies fool you guys, I'm in a bad way. NOT complaining. And I'll be fine but this is so much harder than when I quit the first time.

Have you considered Chantix?? Its a freaking wonder drug, I smoked for 30+ years and less than a month with it I was done. I have no cravings, hang out with people who still smoke and it doesn't bother me in the least. And it gave me the craziest dreams you could imagine! I couldn't wait to get to sleep to see what kind of crazy shit I'd dream.

A little afraid of chantix because of an article I read. It affects some people in weird ways and usually starts with dreams. Some people had the dreams beggin to happen in such a fashion where they didn't know if they were asleep or awake, and sometimes they WERE awake. Like at work and such. Eventually leading to suicides. I'll try the eCigs and I'm currently taking Lexapro.
