What is with GM putting cup holds in the way of manual cars, in Canada and the USA your not allowed to use cell phones and drive or eat or anything that distracts your driving. I know for a fact that this cup holder set up does just that, when those cups get in the way the first thing you do is take your eyes off the road. CTS-V starts at $64k. If you load it up then it'll reach the 70s.

So you think that not having cup holders people will stop drinking and eating? Ha Ha yea right. They will just put drinks in their lap and when it starts to spill the driver will really be distracted and really take their eyes off the road.

If its your kids getting run over at a cross walk by a driver that is distracted because he/she can`t find there shifter.... I wonder if you will think its just as funny then.

The SS is bsaically the GXP reborn, but only in automatic. But I think one problem is that Chevy either forgot or ignored the fact that the most popular G8 model (aside from the V6), by far, was the GT and not the GXP. I think 9 out of 10 of all G8s I see are GTs and not GXPs. The GXP was sweet but most buyers couldn't justify paying $42K. That's why Pontiac only sold something like 1800 GXPs total. People want to put it all on Pontiac, but $42-45K is a lot of money for most people. But the GT was just under $30K and it had the L76, which was perfectly acceptable. People seem to think the SS "must" cost over $40K so as not to compete with Impala, and beause the Charger SRT8 is that much, and because of the Aussie dollar.

The success of the SS is going to really depend on the price and whether Chevy offers a manual. If it's just automatic and costs $45K, I don't think they would come close to selling 5000 cars a year. if it's manual and is priced closer to or under $40K, I think it could hit that target.

Only a small segment will entertain this car just like the GXP or G8. The uninformed mostly. I hear it now..."but I got kids, I got this or that, or etc.", as to why you "need" the two back doors. Fugg that. I have a crewcab truck and a Caddy wagon for those 4-door needs. For my fun cars, every one of them carry no more than 2 side doors. The way I believe it was intended.

Here's my 2 cents on the above:

1) This new SS is a horror, mostly due to the front end, and 5 year old motor/tranny options. The interior, and side and rear profiles are all nice. This same kind of bland looking car with 450 hp and a stick wouldn't have been too bad.
2) I bought a 4 door, and I don't even have any kids! For me, I had coupes forever, and when I got my 1st 4 door a few years ago (Pontiac Grand Prix...now that actually was a granny car) , I really liked having the extra room to throw my stuff. So fast forward a few years when I was looking to buy a newer car, I was cross shopping the G8 GT and Camaro SS. The Camaro definately has more punch you in the face type styling than the G8, but to me it's almost like the guys who walk around in Tapout shirts, but they've never trained to fight in their lives. Camaro's are almost too over the top in the styling dept for me, but if my G8 and a Camaro are parked together in a parking lot, I know all of the stares are going to be directed at the Camaro. And I prefer it that way. I like the subtlety of a good looking 4 door, and if it's faster than 90% the more aggressively styled Camaro coupes out there (v6ers), then that's the car that I'll choose 9 times out of 10.
3) Having said all of that, if I had to choose between a Camaro SS and this Chevy SS, I'd be in a Camaro SS all day long. I'd go out and buy a Toyota Tercel for the 4 times a year I needed a 4 door. I can't believe they were actually calling this SS a 4 door corvette prior to the release. GM really bungled this one IMO.
