Lexus has money? Then why did Toyota request money from the Japanese government?

weather or not its "relatively inexpensive" (relative to what?) its still money that could be better served some where else; namely the product being advertised. if the products (cars in this case) were built better to begin with then the manufactures would need to spend as much money on advertising. it just seems to me that they overcompensate with these elaborate commercials all while the quality of the product diminishes due to lack of funding...
Well look at what happened to the g8. Perfect car, all around. But the advertizing sucked, so the sales sucked. Thats the biggest problem GM has right now, every car they make either leads or is extremely competitive in its segment; but almost no one in the general public has any idea of what GM is doing. If people don't know you're making great cars, they don't have a reason to go buy one.

Its even worse than that, from what I understand the Japanese govt. has been feeding Toyota subsidies for years.

Lexus also had a Godaddy ad pulled from the Open coverage due to a vintage Mustang in the ad.

i don't want to open a can of worms.. but IMO the G8 is not that great of a car.

take the M3 for instance... how many M3 commercials do you see? not many yet it continues to sell well. reason... its a well built machine with a great reputation. not because of advertising. any advertising BMW does is mostly in magazines. way cheaper then producing a commercial and just as effective.

any way i have official hijacked this thread... my bad OP

General terms???? Is this thread about the Lexus commercial or not? Does GM need to spend more $$$ on R&D, yes. Lexus as I stated not as much so. Lexus builds an incredible car so your argument is fairly moot. If they were building crap cars then you would have a point but they don't. You would make a good lawyer because your argument makes little sense in the context of this thread.

unfair advertising? what should all car companies get the same amount of advertising? and blaming this on "liberal media" thats just "Rush" talk.

unless the Lexus commercials were spreading untrue facts about another car, i dont care how many ads they have.

^^ is there a G8 for me to argue that in?

G8 was far from a perfect car... unless of course you're short and don't want to know whats going on around you while driving.

Lexus only needs to answer where the Japanese government money is going, not the American. Apparently they realize what it takes to keep industry alive in Japan, unlike people here. I'm not trying to start a political debate, I'm just saying that people here don't support the industry enough to let the officials that they elected choose where the money goes, so they question the bailout whenever any of it appears wasted -- but is advertisement wasted money? In all of my experience, I've found that advertising is the only way to succeed. I guess we should just be happy that the camaro got a ton of attention at TF2...

This is another example of the liberal media picking and choosing how to shape and mold what get's reported and aired in this country. Where's the out cry to "protect" our youth......
This isn't a liberal/conservitive thing. It's a LAME ass thing. Some folks just don'y know how to worry about themselves instead of what someone else is doing.

Lexus has money? See the article someone else posted. Sorry to argue with you, but I will never respect any toyota product. Every single one of them I've been in feels cheap and uncomfortable. I've never liked one of their products. It's good that you like them (for you), but I never will. Not to offend you, but I think it's very unpatriotic to buy one, also. The quality isn't any better than Americans, and every sale that goes to them instead of Americans is another nail in the coffin of an American's career.
