It just needs to evaluate the cars it's parking next to. No beaters!

It would be so cool to go some where and not have to worry about door dings.

Someone who gets stuck behind a car going 2 mph in a parking garage is going to lose it, lol. Then when they see no one is driving, they'll vandalize it.

Parking spaces that will implement this system will only have this types of cars, no human will go in there to park a car.

Could you imagine if you saw a car with no one in it driving in a parking garage? It would certainly taking some time to get used to.

Not like this. Totally different system where no driver has to be present to do anything.

You know that a human (me) can park a car with what people call "blind spots" like the Camaro in a similar space and get it right on the first go. This thing is steering left and right and left and right 10 times while backing into the space. What a joke.

Wow and eek... it's cool and creepy...

What about malls, shopping centers, and areas with complicated multi-level parking garages? This video shows a near-empty garage with easy access close to the entrance on the 1st level... as if parking spots in busy popular malls is as easy as this one.

Ford's system doesn't shift the car. You have to shift to reverse and then you still have to brake and push the gas. It only steers.

There is a huge difference between attended and un attended.

Seriously? A joke? Wow.

I'd hate to see what you called the DARPA challenge vehicles.

Ultimately your car will have complex radars that will allow the car to "see". Today your adaptive cruise control has forward looking sensors that can determine the rate of closing on an object or car in front and actually apply the brakes. There are now systems that will "pre fill" the brakes in anticipation of a heavy braking/crash avoidance.

Technology exists that can allow cars to communicate with each other to avoid crashes and predict other aspects of driving.

Autonomous driving is coming. Like it or not. Me, I'm not a fan. This will likely make Google a much richer company as they are actually preparing for it.
