The best thing I've found to help with the pain is to take a long hot shower, and move the head of the shower down so the water is hitting me in the back where the kidney is. The messaging action of the water hitting feels sssooo good and stops the pain for 2-3 hours after I get out.

I've had a few of these over the years, but it has been a long time since. I suppose it's about time for another?
![]() The first one I had hurt so bad, that when I knew that the time before my next urination was coming, I just burst into tears like a child, because I knew that the pain that was to follow was going to be so intense. For those that dont know the degree of pain that we're talking about, let me try to put a comparison to it.... One time I dropped a 90 pound jack hammer on my index finger and it ripped my entire nail right off. That pain was so great, I passed out for a short time. A kidney stone was comparable to that. You do not want!

When I went to the ER for one, after they triaged me, they expected me to return to the waiting room. Instead I bursted through the doors and laid in the first open bed I saw, and demanded something for pain immediately! Yours may not have been typical, or you may have a very high tolerance for pain, but I can tell you, for me, there is a constant and desperate attempt to find a comfortable position and it is nowhere to be found! Writhing in pain the entire time! Miserable!

#1 sitting in a chair HURTS and if you lay on the floor in the er waiting room the nurses turn White and freakout and put you in a room asap... I wasn't going to argue with them. #2 when you walk out of the er after spending 5 hours waiting/sleeping in a er room without a dr seeing you and you get aggravated and walk out of the er cursing up a storm the nurses will fraking tackle you and make you sign a dismissal waiver so you won't sue them from lack of treatment...
