But I'll use your mileage as an example.

45,000 per year = 42 mpg Cruze diesel = 1,071 gallons

38 mpg gas Cruze = 1,184 gallons.

Today's prices here: Diesel 4.39 Gas 3.59

Diesel per year at 45,000 miles = $4701

Gas per year at 45,000 miles = $ 4,250

(And yes I get the mpgs will vary, this was to just give people the idea of how much a diesel is actually saving you.) Or in this case, costing you more
Diesel is $4.39 in Minnesota? Holy crap, it's only $4.12 here (and that's up from about $3.89 a couple weeks ago).

The fuel price difference is more of a winter thing. During the summer, they'll balance out more (you know, when gas goes on its usually March-April crazy surge, and goes above $4 to match diesel).

Im glad Gm is finally get with diesels in cars and im sure the 42 hwy is just an estimate everyone knows how to get better mileage in cars i know i beat MPG sticker in almost every car i have owned if i needed to get better mileage. Just remember its just an estimate. The car is priced in the right range remember that VW has been selling diesels in cars for many years in a row. GM hasnt so the price is gonna be a bit higher and dont forget that the warranty is better than Vw.

Me too. In fact my wife had a 2007 Cobalt automatic that was EPA rated at 29 highway but we regularly hit 38 on the highway.

Sure, but since diesels are inherently more efficient than gassers, I would have expected a bit of improvement over the Cruze Eco.

SMH it is UREA not URINE lol. UREA good question, however the cost is coming down so if the vehicle gets good MPGs which this motor from what I understand. The MPG numbers are being published a little light and if this motor came back to life can we say 4.5L Duramax is secretly being tested as well for the 1500 pickup and that would be sweet.

The Cruze is only going to come as an automatic from the way that reads wonder why no standard?

There are individuals on the Cruze forum that are getting 50mpg out of their ECO's. Plus they are doing to their Cruze's what a lot of the Camaro owners are doing, MODing them to get more power. I see the diesel being a small power beast when it has been out a while and all the aftermarket comes online for it.

I have a 91 jetta TD and of course it smokes like all older diesels but I get 50mpg out of it on ever tank fill up. Plus I run for free in the summer when I use waste veggy oil.

Just to expound on that, Urea is contains in human urine but its not but a small percentage of urine along with other stuff the body expels through urine. Here is what Mercedes says,

Quote:
And what if the driver is way out in the middle of nowhere, far from the nearest dealer? Can he or she, ummmm, provide some temporary urea to get the car to a dealer? The question comes up simply because human urine contains 2 to 4 percent urea.

But sadly, the answer is "no". A modern clean diesel car will recognize that your pee is not the right stuff.

The wrong stuff

AdBlue solution has a far higher concentration of urea--32.5%--mixed into deionized water. That's eight to 16 times the strength of your own urine, which also brings with it various salts, toxins, bile pigments, hormones, and roughly 95 percent water.

Just guessing, but the diesel will likely be a low volume runner. To add an even lower volume manual trans may not be in the cards just yet. Just a whole bunch more calibration and testing to do.

And as GM is starting to do more and more this isn't the final number. Could go up when the city/highway numbers get announced.

Yeah it's better to estimate low and then get actual higher numbers than to estimate high and get lower numbers....
