And then they added comfort creatures like airco, comfy leather seats, sat nav, sound deadening, and all other legal bla bla bla to pass legislations and hey presto... you've got a nice looking but pretty regular truck.

and this is impressive "Modifications to the FabSchool/General Tire Raptor (Truck No. 374) to prepare it for Dakar included an ARB locker, King Shocks at each corner and wheels from Walker Evans Racing. Inside, there are Cobra seats with Crow harnesses. Under the hood, the 5.4-liter V-8 Raptor is mostly in factory form except for a pair of Odyssey batteries and Royal Purple Racing oil."

When I posted the quote from the Chief Engineer it was not what I think, as it seems some of you feel, but since the Chief Engineer said it I can imagine that dealers when they sell one tell customers how tough they are and are virtually indestructible. And evidently these morons believed every word.

This is a pretty weak argument. No, obviously it is not a Baja truck from the factory.
But what it certainly isn't is built to take a jump at twice that jump's intended speed, at full throttle, and pancake land with a force hard enough to blow out the tires. If you took a half million dollar built truck and push it far beyond it's intended purpose, no matter how well it is built, the results will be catastrophic. Any professional driver who has done it will probably tell you the same. They do destroy hundreds of professionally built trucks a year while racing by pushing too hard you know? If you put these two rocket surgeons in a built Baja truck, they would destroy it too, only that time they would probably kill themselves as well. The video is funny because the driver is an idiot, not because the truck failed to do what it is supposed to do. Nobody builds stupid-proof. |

The raptor can go from showroom to race (with a roll bar) no question about that, will it handdle a jump like that? only a moron would say yes. But a raptor can definitely run the Baja 1000. Im not saying that you can compare the raptor to a trophy truck or a class 1, but that's why the baja has different classes, so that anyone can compete, it doesn't matter if you have a 1,000,000 dollar truck a 50,000 dollar truck or a 5,000 class 11.

I don't know what Baja you've been to, but the one I went to with FST the last two times, there was no jumps like the one that the retard in the OP's video did. And the Dakar Rally is a tough race as well. That truck was slightly modified. If you think that the Raptor is all show and no go, you're more blind that you can imagine. The truck is not made for 90 foot jumps, but it handles off road adventures quite well. And I've posted it before, but here are the modifications to the Dakar truck Modifications to the FabSchool/General Tire Raptor (Truck No. 374) to prepare it for Dakar included an ARB locker, King Shocks at each corner and wheels from Walker Evans Racing. Inside, there are Cobra seats with Crow harnesses. Under the hood, the 5.4-liter V-8 Raptor is mostly in factory form except for a pair of Odyssey batteries and Royal Purple Racing oil.
