New episode of EXTREME Smuggling on tonight on Discovery HD . Episode is of gun smuggling. Pretty good show, showing the ways and means from both sides of the spectrum.

With a better shooting stance, you would not have stepped back on the first S&W shot. In the picture, you are actually leaning back at the waist. It is a matter of physics. If you didn't want someone to push you, you would lean forward, not back. The gun pushed you.

1. feet shoulder width apart
2. shooting hand foot a little farther back than support hand
3. knees slightly bent
4. nose over toes (lean forward a bit at the waist)

That will help you manage recoil better and have faster followups
Thanks blake-b. I really appreciate the feedback. This is all rather new to me, so any feedback is helpful. I will give this a try at home so that next time I go to the range, it will already be familiar. I felt kinda hunched over with the AR-15 too, so I will have to get a picture of my stance with it so that I can see where I need to make adjustments.

Every news source keeps talking about how it's so easy to get a gun at a gun show.

I've purchased two guns at gun shows, and both times it required a photo ID, my SSN number, and a phone call to the FBI for a background check.

So, where are all these gun shows going on where you won't get background checked to buy a gun?

same for me in the state of ohio...

What I think they mean, and continue to misconstrue is that you can purchase from an individual privately.

WELL NO SHIT!!! of course you can.

Depends on the state and who you're buying from. There are gun shows that have independant face to face sales. The states that don't have any additional gun show regulation and no requirements for FTF transfers can be sold on the spot in cash. Any FFL at a gun show though usually does the NICS check before selling. What kind of guns did you buy? Pistols or a long gun?

I can't tell you I have been to many shows here and Georgia and it wasnt until the last one in waycross that I actually saw people filling out paperwork. I've bought them in my local town with nothing but a picture I'd verifying my age.

I believe they recently closed this loophole but many shady dealers will sell their used inventory of "privately" owned weapons at an undisclosed location off the property. Aka a restaurant parking lot.

Regardless I've known of convicted felons purchasing them in the local classifieds. Their logic is puzzling. If they want it bad enough they WILL get a gun. Period.

Gun show loophole equals non licensed individuals taking table to sell private inventory. Problem is they are not selling their privately owned weapons they are doing business as a "used" dealer without going through the processes that a licensed dealer has to. They do not take ID or conduct background checks and will sell to anyone. These guys are the ones that will eventually see the end of gun shows or the fact that they will be required to have only licensed dealers. Which I don't think will happen! As for individuals selling weapons to other individuals, I don't have an issue but I ALWAYS went with a prepared bill of sale and wrote in the buyers info and had them sign it.

Both times I purchased a pistol.

But every booth at the gun show that was selling firearms (whether pistols, shotguns, or rifles) had a stack of NICS forms...

I've never purchased a pistol at a gun show. I have bought a hunting rifle though. I wasn't asked for anything but photo ID to verify I was 18.

I definitely just bought my AK this weekend at a gun show without any paperwork, background check, or even ID.

Private seller though.
