Hi crew. Just checking in for a bit. I needed to sit down for a while. I have been getting things ready & packing for 8 days away from home. It is crazy how much stuff you need no matter how hard you try to "pack light". Sounds like the adults in transitions thread in here instead of Ol' Farts with hot cars. I can relate. Hang in there everyone. We will get through all this change together. I had another really busy day but miraculously managed to get all my doccumentation done, return dozens of calls from messages over the last couple of days, change my voice mail message, respond to vital e-mails & leave work with nothing to do at home. Good thing too as I have plenty to do to get ready to do as little as humanly possible for 8 days. In reality we will largely stay in the condo for the weekend then gradually get out & do a little shopping, hiking & driving around in the mountains. They were supposed to have gotten up to 18 inches of snow in the mountains today so it should be really pretty. Hold down the fort here. I'll check in when I can but there is limited internet access up there. I can already feel myself relaxing.

I can still hear it in my head: "Close the throttle, rudder opposite rotation, when rotation stops; sharply forward on yoke to break stall. Power on; normal stall recovery..."

Hopefully, I can inherit some of the fortitude you displayed in going back to school. And I hope it will pay off in the form of a good job (In both our cases).
Although I'd still like to chuck it all for awhile and go on a treasure hunting adventure in the Caribbean with Mike!

Hey... I was in a drunken stupor in college.... Back then, though, real world experience was just as much a requirement for a pharmacy job as the degree was. Not so much anymore, unfortunately...
I think you can squeeze in WCOFF and Lillooet with school.

There are some good ones out there. I certainly hope that a bad experience (or even two or three or more) wouldn't cause a person to give up completely, though I certainly can understand how it would get a person down. However, the good ones are still out there and deserve a chance to find ya. And while this may be difficult, when you are ready to move on, try not to hold all the faults of previous folks against the next guy (though if they truly are like the previous, run far and fast!)

(Putting on his "back in my day" voice): Anyone that has traveled at all in this here world, will have picked up a little baggage along the way. Here's to hoping we can stuff it into the overhead compartment and under the seat in front of us!

Unfortunately, now it seems, that degrees and certifications are the "weedout" method used by screeners of resumes. It is very unfortunate, because there are a lot of great folks out there that could do a better job that don't have those degrees or certs but have a lot of experience (and in some cases, may come with a cheaper salary) but never get a chance at some of the jobs.

It may help to use a non-traditional resume (one that focuses on skills) for the interim while you go back to school. Some companies are doing keyword searches on electronic resumes that may pull your resume based on specific systems/processes.

I am currently in the same boat. I was laid off as of Dec 31. And while I have a 4 year degree, I don't have the "necessary" MBA, Masters, or certification initials after my name. 16+ years of experience is good, but I miss out on many of the initial cuts and folks don't even look at what I will bring with me in experience. It isn't necessarily fair, and it probably isn't even the company's best interest to filter that way, but it unfortunately is the current reality. I wish ya the best of luck in getting both the degree ya want as well as the career ya want.

Have fun on your vacation! Hope the trip is great! (And if there is snow, hope it is as pretty as what I saw up in VA over the holidays!)

Finally..... Friday.
Had a crappy night last night. I was frustrated and angry to the point of being on the verge of tears. Today will be better - I'm going to a friend's for a night of wine (and maybe a little whine) with the girls It will be a great way to start a 3 day weekend! And, I get to see Ladybug soon - 8 days and counting

Pretty sure that I won't run into these issues again (looooooong story), so it should be easy not to project onto the next man in my life....

About 10 years ago, all the pharmacy schools changed their programs from 5 year Bachelor of Pharmacy programs to 6 year Doctor of Pharmacy programs. They don't teach anything different, but do focus a lot more on theory rather than practice (personally, I think they did it to be able to charge graduate tuition). The new pharmacists I've seen in that period are horrible, for the most part. Can't make a decision to save their lives... Unfortunately, in a job hunt, most of the "good" jobs look at the BPharm vs PharmD on resumes and decide based solely on that. I got lucky in finding my current job. The company I work for really values experience, and they seek certain personalities - not everyone can handle working with the mentally ill, after all - and interviews were much more important than the resume.
Good luck in finding a company like the one I work for. I have never been happier in a job!

c-c-c-c-ooooooooooooold! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!. Everything is frozen and still a little mixed precip scattered about. A few counties are expecting freezing rain. I sure hope we don't get any of that mess here. We got some yesterday but it was not yet icing the roads. The poor Cruze got thoroughly coated though. I think I may drive my truck. Mike does not want me to drive it to Nashville until it gets new tires but I'd rather take my chances with those tires than the Cruze. I am ready for spring already. Hope everyone have a good day.
Pickups SUCK in ice and snow!

Enjoy your get-away... can I come?

Yep, don't know who to trust, but you can't hold that against everyone. I think that old saying is"better to have loved and lost than not to have loved at all", might have misquoted, but hopefully not too badly.

. I'd love to try a food truck sometime!
I don't think we ever lose when we truly love..... even if the ending isn't happily ever after.

Oh yeah......

Gary, I'm sorry to hear about your job. I know it's not entirely unexpected, but that doesn't make it any easier. Recently I heard about a free online training site called www.khanacademy.org

They have everything there: math, science, business and finance, econ...check it out. Maybe there'll be some useful courseware. Good Luck

PS: I want to go treasure hunting with you and Sky Man, too!

Jeanette, looks like you'll get a little relief this weekend. Have fun!
