Savage model 10 is an interesting .308 rifle, floating bolt face and a SWEET adj. trigger. The factory cheapo stock has to go!

If I was going to do much more than a stock change, my next bolt rifle would be a full custom including action.
... maybe this one

Right. That's really been my hesitation. I have a Kahr PM9 and p380. I'd like the stronger .45, but I'm not sure how much I'd carry it.

a nice shotgun or a nice bolt gun. either a 12 gauge for 3 gun comps or a 700 for some long gun range stuff... opinions
Can't go wrong with a 700. I have been eyeing a 700 5r in .338 at my local shop for awhile.......

Can't beat the accuracy etc for the price.

Im in the same boat. I like the baby glocks, but they are big and heavy compared to my little lcp.

I'm not too worried about this, Executive Orders the is all beats all that most people think. There is still checks and balances in play. The Supreme Court has already ruled that Executive Orders can not create new laws, they have to be based on a current law that Congress has already passed and the Supreme Court has the authority to over rule any Executive Order. Obama's only hope at this point of time is to try and reinstate the Assault Weapons ban that expired in '04 but I think even this would be over ruled by the Supreme Court. Even if it does go through Congress still has to approve any budget that enforcing an Executive Order would require and if they fail to do so, the order ceases to exist.

Ok, maybe I'm confused by you two. You can keep a full magazine in it and still have the selector in safe...

Bolt forward, safety on, insert mag. Now you have an inserted and loaded mag. No round in the chamber. Safety is still on. Are you saying your AR's don't have this function?

I know that when you rack it and pull the trigger with the safety off (unloaded), that the selector wouldn't go back into safe until you bring the bolt back again... but what does that have to do with keeping a loaded mag in the weapon and having the safety off? Sure, it won't fire until you chamber a round... but it also won't fire until the trigger gets pulled.

I was just always taught that one of the worst habits you can get into is leaving a gun anywhere with a safety off. I'm not anti-keeping guns loaded. My pistol is loaded all the time. It's in the safe when I'm not home, it's out when I am. But it's always loaded. The safety is always on though.

Wasn't trying to confuse you...this is the situation I was talking about. I keep a magazine in, but don't bring the bolt back.

The AR platform was designed this way, so that someone would know immediately whether to switch to fire, or charge the weapon. The 1911 employs the same concept. You can't engage the safety until the hammer is pulled back.

Especially with crazy hot Houston summers. A pocket pistol is so much easier to carry in shorts.

Well this is what's confusing. I thought I was crazy, so I tried. I just grabbed my AR, made sure the safety was on, and closed the bolt (brought it all the way forward). Now I have a closed bolt, with a safety on. Then I put a mag in.

Now I have an AR, with a closed bolt, a loaded and installed mag, no round in the chamber, and the safety on. Are you saying you can't have a loaded mag in your gun with the bolt forward and the safety on at the same time?

now at this step you put a full mag in and set the rifle where you can get at it. So it is at the ready you just have to grab the rifle and rack the bolt and its boom time.

on a side note i keep my SW99 the same way since there is no mechanical lock out safety on the gun

this way works also. just different options... as an engineer though i look at that as a lot of time with force on the spring since it isn't really necessary... you have to rack the bolt to grab a round anyway.
