It's a shame to hear about this. On the upside, perhaps there's some good junkyard deals up there now.

That's where my '13 SS conv. went- less than 300 miles, water above the grille emblem- was 'safely' in the garage.

200,000 cars/trucks/motorcycles is significant but it's relatively small compared to all the vehicles in the hard hit areas of New York/New Jersey/east coast.

I was searching for salvage cars to buy (unfortunately I'm a bit short of funds at the moment and I can't afford buying a new onw) and I came up with this auction for flood damaged cars for sale so now I'm thinking about purchasing Sandy flood car. I'm not sure yet, but I guess that if the water level wasn't deep enough to cause with the electronics than it might be fine.

I would not go there. If it is a salvage, you can bet the water was deep. I lost a new car to a flash flood once and it is definately not pretty. Only a real expert could sort out all the damage to engine, electronics, etc.

It's SALT water, doesn't take much to totally fry a system.

NEVER buy a salt water flooded car. EVER.

Fresh water I would have to look at in person first. Most of the time with a flooded car, a COMPLETE replacement of the entire interior is required. We're talking seats, carpet, door panels, side panels, trunk interior, dash, vents, etc. Anywhere that water can get into must be replaced or thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. You also have to think about the engine. Anything above the grill has the possibility of getting in the engine and hydro-locking the engine.

Wow! Here in Jersey, a towing company is in trouble for temporarily storing 5000 in a sand quarry. Neighbors alerted authorities after hundreds of rollbacks carrying cars to the quarry were seen.
