Legality of Phantom Grills?
I know this topic has been talked and overtalked about already, but I have been sitting here looking at my state statutes for about half an hour now and I have concluded that they are in fact legal in the state of Maine.
Here is the link that I've been looking at: http://www.mainelegislature.org/legi...-Asec1904.html That is for Maine laws. I managed to find the rules regarding headlights in Virginia: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp...19VAC30-70-140 In which, it specifically states a car will be denied inspection if: Foreign material is placed on or in front of the headlamp lens or interferes with the beam from the lamp. That would lead me to conclude that phantom grills are illegal in Virgnia, and probably a lot of other states as well. Yet there is no equivalent phrase in the Maine statutes. I assume that means, it is allowed here. Am I missing anything? Are there any lawyers or cops out there that might put my mind to ease?

I would say they aren't illegal in VA, I think your reading to much into the foreign material over the bulb....the grill's do not block the light so they would not fall under that statute I believe....

A phantom grill covers everything including headlights, I ran a phantom on my Nissan for about 3 years in CA. Was it illegal? Yes. Did I ever get pulled over? No
So really depends, during the day there's isn't much problem even at night you can't tell I had a phantom, so you run the risk getting a ticket. I'm guessing it would just be a fix it. |

so it is illegal in some states? I was reading that to mean some of these light covers people get for the lights, like the ultra dark GTO ones.
The phantom doesnt seem to block any ability for the light to shine through that I can tell, heck I cant even tell on my buddys at night he has the grill on. why would they consider that as hindering? Has anyone on here actually gotten a ticket? |
