The thing that always strikes me is that we know about stuff like the X-47B...



the X-37B...



and the RQ-170...



but I am always wondering about what they aren't showing us yet. Like the rest if the guy below.

Yeah a lot of crazy stuff going on that the public don't know about.
Speaking of the X-37B The last time an X-37 flew it was up there orbiting for over a year and few even knew it was up there. The first mission ready vehicle that first orbited for over 7 months is supposed to launch again tomorrow afternoon aboard at Atlas 5 but weather is not looking good here. Been delayed since Oct.:( We can only imagine what its "Classified" Payload is.

I was amazed reading the book on the Lockheed Skunkworks to discover that the Stealth Fighter first flew when I was in High School but wasn't really revealed until the first Gulf War in 1991. Likely because it was "outdated" LOL. 12 years of near secrecy.

Yeah they retired it early with the "new" F-22 being developed. Anyone remember the F-19?

Let's see what happens if we put 4 big ass engines on a smaller air frame! Still holds a bunch of records

B-58 is number one here on favorite list listed followed by the F104 Starfighter and F4 Phantom as far as Turbine Fighter and Bombers go.
Have you been out to Dayton to see the XB70? If it's still there and the B36?

i was in Dayton a few years back, but didn't have time to get there,
it's on my list of places to stop if i drive to the next fest, and convince the wife we need to stop. lol

Lots of Aviation/Space History in the Area besides the Wright Patterson and the Wright Bros if time permits make a stop in the town of Wapakoneta,OH outside Dayton. Birthplace of the late great Neil Armstrong.

That was supposed to be the destination of my second airplane ride. We were to fly from Lansing Capitol City Airport down to Dayton in Cherokee N15126, the same plane I took my first (surprise) ride in. I was about 12 or 13 at the time, and I was so exited leading up the day we went to the airport. It was also the first time I experienced a VFR flight cancelled due to weather at the destination airport....:(
But my dad came through at a later date, and drove the family on an overnight trip to Dayton. On the way we stopped at the Armstrong Museum. I loved the AF museum. The XB-70 is one of my favorites too, as well as the B-58, and the B-36. The Fifties were great for planes, because there were so many ideas and manufacturers pushing the technology forward, fueled by lots of post war boom funding.
I still have fading Kodak X-15 photos in my album, from that trip. I need to get a good scanner, before it's too late. I even have a pic I took of my Father with his favorite plane, the P-47. Someday I hope to post some of my album here. I'm hopeful that some of them are declassified now....

Great story Thanks for sharing Gary. Hope to see some of the photos.That would be great. Why didn't we have digital Cameras back then? Used to fly a Lear 35 in and out of Wapakoneta on occasion with some pretty important "Cargo" onboard. Short strip and when the field was/ended up wet we had to either plan or divert down the road to Dayton Intl.
