Finally a nice mid size car with a diesel.

This could turn out to be an excellent car.

Awesome torque and I'm sure THE MPG will be very nice indeed.

Not to mention this car looks awesome.

Love it, but it would actually be the second one, they have offered the Diesel in the Passat for years now and the 11 and newer ones are pretty nice, is bland. THis is why i say Mazda should say though

MBZ and BMW also sell diesels but I am happy to see another one in a mainstream car besides VW.
IIRC, the Ford Fusion is built on the Mazda 6 platform. Does this mean the Fusion could also go diesel?

The new Fusion no longer shares her platform with Mazda. I read this somewhere.

My guess would be around that as well. Did you see the torque? Easily do a burnout lol

I've never owned by diesel before. Are there any negatives to it? Do they last just as long or longer than gas engines? Is maintenance costs roughly the same?

Usually maintaining a diesel is more expensive as the parts are more money. But they last a lot longer as well. Much more heavy duty equipment. They do take longer to warm up as well. They hold more oil but change less often. And the fuel is more expensive. But it uses a lot less. A vw tdi with a tune is a crazy fast car. I know most previous ford diesels are junk but who knows who is producing this one. If its not ford maybe the Mazda will be a good one.

If the Jetta & Passat are hitting low 40's (highway), what makes you guys think this will do 20% better?

This is one of those weird cars that look ultra nice from some angles, and ultra boring from others.

Eg.:

Ultra boring. Is it a Camry? Is it an Accord? No, its..:

Ultra sleek:

I hate cars like this. You get sold on the press pictures because they look so good, then you buy the car and see it from certain angles and it looks ugly.

Here's another weird comparison:

Yawn:

vs Nice..:

They're both from the same profile, and yet to me the level of hotness is world's apart!

Cars should look hot regardless of profile and angle of light. Jekyl and Hyde type cars annoy me.

I look at the front of that car and all I can think of is this:

Guys, it is a family sedan, you can't go too crazy with the design or it won't sell, the general public likes boring haha.

As for the car, it is a Mazda only platform, them ford have seperated and Ford kept the kids. The Diesel is Mazda's new skyactive diesel.
