GM Announces Pricing for 2014 Chevrolet Impala

New sedan offers added content and technology starting at $27,535
General Motors
November 23, 2012

DETROIT – The all-new 2014 Impala, Chevrolet’s flagship sedan, will go on sale this spring with a starting price of $27,535, including an $810 destination charge.

Impala was America’s best-selling full-size sedan in 2011, with sales of more than 171,000, which made it one of the 10 best-selling cars in the United States

“We’ll build on the success the Impala nameplate has generated over its history,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet marketing. “We’ve added sophisticated design features, more technology and safety equipment, while conserving Impala’s current strengths like spaciousness and comfort.”

Chevrolet’s latest MyLink radio debuts in the 2014 Impala. The in-vehicle entertainment system adds an eight-inch color display screen that is customizable. The system also adopts natural voice recognition – a first for Chevy.

The 2014 Impala has several new features, including Adaptive Cruise Control and crash-avoidance technologies like Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Side Blind Zone Alert. Ten standard airbags are included as well – among the most in the segment.

Three direct-injection engine choices will be available to customers: a 3.6L V-6, a newly designed 2.5L four-cylinder and a 2.4L four-cylinder with fuel-saving eAssist technology that is estimated to deliver 35 mpg. All engines are matched to a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2014 Impala will be offered in LS, LT and LTZ trim levels.

The 3.6L, 305-horsepower-engine will come to market first, with a starting price of $30,760 for the LT and $36,580 for the LTZ, including destination charges.

The 2.5L engine is priced as follows: $27,535 for the LS; $29,785 for the LT; $34,555 for the LTZ.

Pricing for the 2.4L engine with eAssist will be announced later.

The new Impala will be built in the Oshawa, Ontario, and Detroit-Hamtramck, Mich., assembly plants.

That would be an acceptable starting price if it was something more than an NA 4 s cylinder in a heavy fullsize car......

That 4 banger is also more powerful and almost as torquey as the 3.4L V6 GM was using a decade ago as the base engine in the Impala, and has the added benefit of working through a 6 speed transmission rather than a 4. On the other hand, it will have to lug around a bit more weight. But on the whole, it'll be a perfectly adequate engine for the car. If you want more, there's a V6 available for just over 30 grand.

Accord, yes. But thats also 1 size down from the Impala.

The Maxima starts at 32,780, which is 2 grand more than the base V6 Impala (Maxima is V6 only, so it doensn't seem fair to compare it to the 4 banger price)

I wonder if they will be dropping the 8 speed in it at some point. Seems like a no brainer.

Um, no, doesn't the 12 V6 Impala start at around 26k, you are having to pay 4k more to get the V6 to start out. As for the Accord, it has been considered a fullsze by the EPA since 08, so while it is technically the midsize offering, you are not going to lose much, space between the 2. While the V6 pricing pricing between the 2 is pretty similar, nmind you cannot apparently get a V6 Accord with leather, the Accord 4 cylinder is only 22k to start. Lets get even more apples to apples and start with the taurus which is basically the same price as the impala starting out, but with a standard V6 (and the 4 banger while optional is at least a turbocharged unit), for the starting price of a v6 Impala you get AWD and more options in your Taurus.

Why is Chevy making all their cars look like toyotas and Hondas?
I'm not feeling the direction that they're taking the entire line. I'm almost afraid to know what the next camaro will look like. At least Buick still has some style.

But here is the real comparison, one of the cars that GM hopes to slay with the new Impala. Comparing V6 to V6, the Chevy looks pretty copetitive. Still have to compare equipment and technology though to make sure it is apples to apples. Although I find it interesting that they use the LaCrosse as the GM competitor in this summary.

Just the Facts:

•The redesigned 2013 Toyota Avalon starts at $31,785, including a $795 destination charge, reflecting a $2,205 price cut over the outgoing model.
•The new 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid starts at $36,550, including shipping.
•The 2013 Avalon is cheaper than three of its chief rivals, including the 2013 Buick LaCrosse, 2013 Nissan Maxima and 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8.

TORRANCE, California — The redesigned 2013 Toyota Avalon starts at $31,785, including a $795 destination charge, reflecting a $2,205 price cut over the outgoing model.

Toyota did not explain the reason for the price cut, but noted that the Avalon will be available in seven models "that will cover a broader price range to increase accessibility to more consumers."

The new 2013 Toyota Avalon Hybrid starts at $36,550, including shipping. It is the first time Toyota's flagship sedan will be offered as a hybrid. The most expensive Avalon is a 2013 Avalon Hybrid Limited that starts at $42,195, including shipping.

The 2013 Avalon is cheaper than three of its chief rivals, including the 2013 Buick LaCrosse, 2013 Nissan Maxima and 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8. But it is more expensive than the 2013 Ford Taurus.

The 2013 Buick LaCrosse FWD starts at $32,535, including an $875 destination charge.

The 2013 Nissan Maxima 3.5 S starts at $33,560, including a $780 destination charge.

The 2013 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 starts at $35,075, including an $875 destination charge.

The 2013 Ford Taurus SE starts at $27,395, including a $795 destination charge.

The base 2012 Toyota Avalon starts at $33,990, including a $795 destination charge.

An optional $1,750 Technology package is available on the 2013 Avalon Limited gasoline and hybrid models and bundles dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams and a pre-collision system.

The new Impala looks sweet! Although I don't know about a 2.5L pulling the car around...
At least the car is in a reasonable price point!

That's a nice looking car, spend $3k more and you have a nicer used Camaro though.

Funny how they left out a lot of direct competitors that happen to be lower priced. the 13 Charger starts at 26,790, 27890 with the 8 speed auto, the 13 300 Sedan starts at 30,990, apparently with the 8 speed auto as standard. i also find it laughable they chose the Genesis V6 as the full size FWD Impala Competitor instead of the FWD FULLSIZE Axera, which starts at 33,125 with standard V6, and only real option being the tech package. Also the Azera would be more comparable to the LTZ running at 36580. THen there is upcoming Kia Cadenza which should be similar in pricing and features to the Azera, but have Kia's stying. And there uis the fact that the LTZ is running right into Lexus ES350 styling, wich BTW is not based on the larger Avalon.
