If it took 24 hrs to build, nobody could afford it.

Read the Q&A at the end, it takes about 24 hours to make one Camaro start to finish.

No it doesn't, sorry. I have been in manufacturing for 32 yrs, and no, it doesn't take 24 hrs, even by hand, it wouldn't take 24 hrs.

Not sure of how they are starting/stopping the clock on takt time or cycle time or whatever the heck they call it there, but they may be including from total inception (raw material arriving) to driving it off the assembly line to transport. Keep in mind that the dealer's service dept has plenty of prep time to get the car "showroom ready" for sale.

Think about it: 24hrs, 3, 8hr shifts of workers per car. Nope.

Addendum:

So after writing the above, but not reading the link, I said to myself: "Myself, oh heck, how pretencious of myself to not read the article before chiming in".

After reading the article, which is factually correct in the time line, so too am I correct in my above post, and gosh darn, my 32 yrs of mfg is starting to pay off.

Indeed, 24hrs from start to finish, okay. But actual labor hours associated with it is actually the smallest part of the equation.

Not to go historical, but this is why Ford made the assembly line so successful, planning and preparation. Or as any fortune cookie will tell you " Fail to plan, and plan to fail."

Happy Thanksgiving !

Yeah I didn't think they meant how long between cars leaving the assembly line. If they only finished one a day that would be pricey!

Its assembly line process. From start to finish is 24 hrs. But...cars ere coming of the line each minute. The assembly live was developed by Henry Ford.

I'm somewhat curious as to why you'd assume that build time wouldn't include things like transit & curing time. Afterall, they're still part of the build process, even if nothing is being added.
