I was about to purchase the yankee when i got an email about spikes upper being available... Bought it last night.

Yankee Hill Gas block .750 diameter


Magpull Dark Earth colored 30 round mags bought two


Magpul Handgaurd MOE Carbine length Dark Earth Colored


AR-Stoner 5.56 1 in 9 twist Chrome moly Phosphate Barrel.

Picked up delta ring, barrel nut and carbine length gas tubes with roll pin as well.

All in all spent 370$ total today. Damn good deal for that

I could have gotten some completed upper assemblies minus the charging handle and BCG for around this price, but the ones I were seeing were low quality according to alot of the forums I've read. I decided to play it safe and just dive in. Pay to Play baby

nice man, i went with all magpul flat dark earth furniture. once my rail gets here its will be alot closer to being finished!

Hey everyone. I have a few questions for you.

I shot a few guns in my lifetime here on the farm just target shooting but they were all guns other people have brought other than my .22 rifle and my fathers 9MM.

I just turned 21 and am looking to get my first pistol while I still have the chance. I really don't know what caliber to get or what brand. Smith and Wesson M&Ps I heard are good quality, but I don't know for sure. What guns/calibers do you recommend for occasional pleasure shooting along with personal protection? (plan on getting a carry permit this week, so also something that isn't too bulky to carry)

Hate to be the broken record.....

But guns are like underwear, only YOU can decide what fits for you. Go to the range and try a bunch of different guns. Pick your top 3 that "feel right" and do some research on them. Then go back and shoot them again. Decide, plunk down the Cash.

Your options are wide open.
My advice is start with 9mm because its cheap and readily available. It is deadly enough for personal defense.
Glock is reliable and easy to maintain.

I have a few you are welcome to compare and a range close by where we can shoot anything you want to try. I will be in town this week if you care to demo a few.

I'll add..... Even here in kalifornia, gun dealers are smart businessmen. I came in to my local shop, looking to buy my first handgun, and I told them that.

I rented 10-12 guns, range, bought targets and ammo to make my decision. They gave all that for free, once I paid for my new gun with them. Just ask if they have a policy like that.

Even better, borrow some guns from friends. ^^^^^^^^^^^

This is one thing Redemption and I constantly agree with. No one can give a first time gun owner recommendations on what gun to buy. Why? Because everyone's hand is designed differently. What feels comfortable to me or someone else may not feel comfortable to you (for example I hate Glocks. Hate the way they feel and since I never could get one to fit comfortably in my hand I was never accurate with one). Get online and look up when the next local gun show is and go. Handle and feel as many different guns as possible. Remember the guns that you really like and feel comfortable with then do your research on those guns and check reliability and reviews. Once you scratch out the bad eggs, find a gun range that allows you to rent those guns and shoot them. One of the biggest and worst mistakes I see first time gun owners make is buy a gun based off of recommendations.

After you handle some guns, instead of being "What gun should I buy?" your question will be "I'm thinking between this gun and this gun. Does anyone have any experiences with these?" This type of question we can help you with.

Another thing, imo, a pleasure gun and a carry gun are two separate guns. I've yet to find a gun perfect for conceal carrying that I can go out and shoot for 3-4 hours at the gun range and enjoy. And vice versa, all the guns that I enjoy shooting for 3-4 hours are all too big to conceal carry.

So a while back My buddy asks me to go with him to a pawnshop with a huge gun selection to help him pick out a couple of small 9mm's for himself and his wife to use for cc permits and I ended up walking out with for a rock Island 1911 for Literally a song and a dance.

I have been shooting all my life but this is My first pistol and I can say after putting a couple of boxes of ammo through it I am In Love.



Side note: my dad got me a custom long barrel ar a while back and I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, I can't wait for thanksgiving as I'm going to spend all day in the back yard shooting. (it's the only thing that makes up for your family living in the sticks)

you're not kidding, I can't hit the broadside of a barn with most 9mm's due to grip issues. So far It's been a great gun I just have to not think about the price per shot too much.

Thanks for your help, earlier guys....I know I was asking about shotguns...but I decided to go in a totally different direction.

Take a look at my new addition. LR-308 from DPMS. 18" bbl, and though I haven't shot it yet (planning on lots of target in preparation for next year's hunting season) - I did clean it...and the fit and finish, balance and all that is excellent!
