Home Audio Speaker Gurus

Hey there everyone, just looking to see if anyone on the board knows anything about a good speaker system for home audio, price ranges, etc. I specifically am looking for a surround sound style home theatre system that has wireless speakers. Thanks in advance!!

Look no farther. http://www.htd.com Unbelievably awesome business practices. I called before ordering and explained what I wanted to accomplish with our vaulted ceiling that was prewired during contruction for surround sound. They lead me down the right path and never pushed me or tried to sway me into something I didn't want/need.

Yeah, Bose seems to have a bad wrap now - what happened to them or were they really never that good?

It all comes down to how much $ you want to spend.

Bose are good, just not for your avid home audio enthusiast or the money. I used a Bose system for a long time and for what it was, they were good. They were not as good as I paid for though. I could have spent the same amount on a basic Klipsch system and would have been happier in the long run. But, I went with Bose cause I was new to the game and with the type things I watched or listened to. They make AWESOME garage speakers and take up very little space these days. But back to what you originally posted. There are some very nice systems out there but wireless is not the way to go. Especially if you are wanting something for a good home audio. Wireless just isn't the way to go. But if that is what you want then you will pay even more for a good system. Its like SWAT said above, it all depends on your $$$$ flow. Polk makes some pretty good entry level systems as well as Klipsch. I personally like Klipsch better but they get pretty pricy once you start building a home theatre. Your receiver plays a huge role in what your speakers do. Spend a couple grand on descent speakers and watch it all go to waist with a $300.00 receiver. It's a marriage that has to work together when it comes to home audio. And thats why people buy Bose most of the time. It comes as a complete system and for what it is, sounds pretty good. Just don't be upset if you want that movie theatre experience and your not getting it. Cause with Bose you won't. Just my $.06

I would second naSSty1's comment about NO wireless speakers. If you are at all handy around basic tools then you can wire your home up in a day. Makes a world of difference! Whatever you do do NOT get a theater in a box! Again echoing the comments above, get a good receiver! Spend $500-700 on a good Yamaha or Harmon Kardon. You can spend a lot of $$$ on speakers. Good avid speakers in my book would be Klipsch, Wharfedale, and Polk. Good luck!

If you can wire the speakers, Do it! You open up a lot more possibilities for equipment.

Some speakers I like that are affordable(ish) are: Definitive technologies, Polk, Jamo, Infinity, Klipsch, on and on...

Take some good cd's and dvd's to the store and listen to several brands. Everyone's ears are different.

Just want to revive this thread with a question, I have a subwoofer with the backplate in the picture below. Can I get any speakers and make them work for a mini computer sound system? Should they be nonpowered speakers? I don't understand this...at all. Looking for some affordable recommendations. The "Line in" RCA plug things have the cord running from my computer to the speaker. Am i doing this right lol?

You want a real speaker company, check out Audio Products International. API brands are awesome, world class.

The line in is one way to get a signal to the sub. The speaker hook ups are for a receiver without a sub output to get connected to the sub.

You need a receiver and speakers for sound.

really boils down to your budget. And does the budget only include speakers or do you also need a receiver? I do believe there are some new wireless speakers on the market that are getting good remarks.
