I was looking and almost bought, but then came the Camaro and well you know the rest. I will look again when our all season daily drive get close to replacement time. I would say the Gov under rates for sure. My friend loves his to death and stands by the 40-50 mpg range. I was on a diesel form and found a guy getting 30 on his Duramax after a few mods.

I couldn't agree more. If GM could make diesel an option for some cars immediately, they could directly compete with some cars already offering that technology. Some people prefer diesel in their vehicles. That is especially true of some friends of mine who are into trucks. Quote:

As an owner of a VW TDI vehicle I will say the mileage is unbelievable. On the other hand the maintience and the repair cost for anything that goes wrong with them is a death sentence. The cost of repairs and upkeep has killed the offset for the increase in mileage. I get around 43mpg out of a 13 gallon tank which is great, but all the repairs and the maintience alone is freaking high. This car has been a major pain in my ass and because of all its problems Id never own another VW again. For that fact this will be my first and last foriegn car ever in this house. Once my wife is out of nursing school in about 1.5 years her Toyota is gone( even tho no problems out of her car) so she can get the new Equinox. So two less foreign cars on the road, and back to GM for me.

That's too bad on your repair cost issues. I know VW can be all over the place with their reliability. As some people like to point out, the industry average is something like 1.1 repairs per vehicle- but I think in VW's case it's more like 4 vehicles run fine and the 5th needs 5.5 repairs.

Yeah if you look up their histroy of reliablity, its not real high on anyones list. Wish there would have been more reports on it before I bought the damn thing. Oh well, live and learn.

I am in Europe, and I drive a Diesel Hyundai Tucson. And yes, it is true that there's a "Diesel craze" going on over here. However, since Diesel is cheaper here as well, the state gets his money anyway - by jacking up the car tax that you pay each year (mind you, car tax in Europe is mainly based on engine displacement - the 'liters' and emissions). So, you might have a car that uses cheaper gas, but you pay higher taxes.
And - Diesel cars do get annoying after a while - they're noisy! They idle like a tractor, too. I have to admit - the longer I am stuck with a Diesel, the more I want a quiet gasoline based car. Preferably a Hybrid for inner-city stop-and-go smoothness. But that's another story... Long story short - my next car will be a gasoline based car. ![]() Cheers, Rainer |

Well the VW is a dead turd in the drive. Sounds like the driver side cv jont is going out. Ill now leave it in the drive until the Camaro comes in and drive it to the dealer for trade. I dont care what they give me for it just want it gone. HURRY UP MY PRECIOUS!!!!
