I agree, and would have no problem re-taking a drivers test every few years [I think every year is overkill for any age]. And @patternpilot, if you had read my follow up post [3 posts above yours], you would see that I do drive defensively and safely every single time I sit behind the wheel. It's just hard to explain an "almost accident" on the internet. If I had not been paying attention [i.e. texting or fiddling with an iPod], I wouldn't have seen that old lady, and wouldn't have been able to take the precautionary measurements to PREVENT the accident [slamming on the brakes and laying on the horn].

Either way, I feel this thread is dead. People have had some good opinions. I just don't like how some people mistook some of the things I said [like I was bashing old people in general]. But it's hard to detect tone of voice over the internet, so I get why some people took it that way...

Anyway, drive your Camaro safe, everyone.

This was my first year riding a motorcycle on a regular basis, and I learned do be EXTREMELY defensive while riding, which then carried over to driving on days I couldn't ride. If it looks like someone is about to pull out in front of me, I usually flash my lights a couple times, slow down, honk the horn, and then if they see me and stop I'll speed up and get out of there, otherwise I'm fully prepared to stop before I have to take evasive action. Always assume everyone else is an idiot on the road

That being said, totally agree that some of these elderly simply do NOT have the reaction time necessary to drive safely.

My sister and brother in law had a similar experience in the parking lot. They were just leaving their spot, they were pulled out and ready to move forward in the lane, then all of a sudden a car ahead of them started backing up in their direction. The car kept backing up, closer and closer, so then my brother in law laid into the horn, but she kept backing up. Failing to check her mirrors, and obviously can't hear very well. She backed right into my sister's brand new charger.

Not really here. The young people who get in accidents now are the ones that will be ****ing up for most of their life, so it is strange that we attribute failure instantly to all youth, when in fact I thought we were all individual and special. Isn't that what the farce of public school is supposed to teach?

With all of our imported drivers from lands far, the lack of knowledge and the fact that we don't enforce learning English for the people who drive when the signs are all in English lead so some pretty disastrous consequences. That or its some medium to old age woman causing the disruption. In this case, should we not be charging Chinese immigrants and women a higher premium on insurance just like they do to youth?

The insurance companies charge a premium to younger drivers because they can get away with it. They know that we don't have the power to change things like a old person complaining can. And purely take advantage of the situation. GG no re.
