Well......I can respect that. On the surface, it seems gimmicky. Like an apple product. But, using automation to make your heating/cooling more efficient, and in the long run lower your power consumption, is a really great idea. I have friends who use these who've told me that they noticed a drop in their electric bill of 20-30% after the first month of use. May not seem like a lot, but when you add up those savings over a 12 month period, the Nest more than pays for itself. It really is simple to use too. Very much like the old school thermostats with the circular dial.

Pretty cool thermostat!

We are getting out alarm upgraded and we will be able to control the temp of the house through that.
