Call me crazy, but I just preordered a thermostat... A thermostat.

sounds nice. But how many times do you have to come home to a cold house and turn it on before it realizes that you come home anywhere between 5-8PM depending upon your work load and after work events? :P

But the fact you can control it over the internet is worth it to me. No getting out of bed to adjust the thermostat or if you go on vacation, you can adjust it remotely...

Best way to save money is to never use a furance, turn that sucker off.

Go to walmart and but those $20 ceramic heaters [ must say ceramic and never spend more then $20 on the fancy tower or spin ones, not worth it]

And put one in ever room and turn it on and off and set temp as needed.

Youll be plenty warm and save a butt load on energy.

Cost saving, yes. Practical, probably not. Fire hazards, potentially.

What do you do during the summer months?

They got all the built in safetys and its ceramic, not the old fashion glowing red hot rods.

In the summer we crank the AC.

I'm really curious about this thing. I want to install one in my house. Anyone have any experience with the generation 2 Nest learning thermostat? I read all of the amazon reviews on it, and they are mostly positive for the gen 2 device.

I bought one today (2nd generation model) at lowes and installed it myself. This thing is frickin cool!!!! Had some trouble with the wiring, but my HVAC buddy helped me get it straightened out.

Once i figured out the wiring, connected it up, dialed in the home network information and it worked right away.

It takes a week for it to learn your habits. So in that time, you have to go online and create a schedule for it to follow. Pretty cool I can set the temperature from my bed using my iPhone.

He he, happy wife happy life?

Only time will tell if this is a good investment or not. Hopefully it doesn't end up being a waste of money.
