Disney bought Star Wars.... no seriously

http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment...film-for-405b/

I you not.

Quote:
Disney is paying $4.05 billion to buy Lucasfilm Ltd., the production company behind "Star Wars," from its chairman and founder, George Lucas. It's also making a seventh movie in the "Star Wars" series called "Episode 7," set for release in 2015, with plans to follow it with Episodes 8 and 9 and then one new movie every two or three years.
The Walt Disney Co. announced the blockbuster agreement to make the purchase in cash and stock Tuesday. The deal includes Lucasfilm's prized high-tech production companies, Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, as well as rights to the "Indiana Jones" franchise.
Disney CEO Bob Iger said in a statement that the acquisition is a great fit and will help preserve and grow the "Star Wars" franchise.
"The last `Star Wars' movie release was 2005's `Revenge of the Sith' -- and we believe there's substantial pent-up demand," Iger said.
Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will become the division's president and report to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn. Lucas will be creative consultant on new "Star Wars" films.
Lucas said in a statement, "It's now time for me to pass `Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers."
The deal brings Lucasfilm under the Disney banner with other brands including Pixar, Marvel, ESPN and ABC, all companies that Disney has acquired over the years. A former weatherman who rose through the ranks of ABC, Iger has orchestrated some of the company's biggest acquisitions, including the $7.4 billion purchase of animated movie studio Pixar in 2006 and the $4.2 billion acquisition of comic book giant Marvel in 2009.
Disney shares were not trading with stock markets closed due to the impact of Superstorm Sandy in New York.

Well, Disney also had their finger in the Avengers as well.... so I'd venture to say they can't do any worse than Lucas did with it...

I rather see someone buy it before it becomes extinct. We'll see how it goes..

This is awesome news for Star Wars fandom.

After what Disney has done for Marvel...this can only lead to an epic redemption after Lucas' meh 1,2,&3 trilogy.

AS a Star Wars geek..I'm geeking out right now.

Was scared at first, but yeah, after what he did with 1, 2, & 3 and some of the crap he pulled with the canon (as in lore) in that Clone Wars series.... I think Disney will be a much better handler.

As a Star Wars fan, and non-Hater i have mixed feelings about more movies. It seems like they'd just be repeating the same jedi-Vs. Sith story over and over.

This isn't really a bad thing. So many people began freaking out online. What they don't understand is Lucas will still be an advisor to the future movies. Disney is also pretty good at telling stories.

The video I just posted is one of the results of this...and that will continue. It's almost as bad as that Star Wars Christmas Special they did, except they mostly used the real actors voices...which was horrible.

Disney will ruin the Star Wars franchise...IMHO. Seriously...C3PO, saying "Step off, fool"??

Disney can whore out the characters all they want, just as long as they don't f#@& with the canon in the new movies. What has me worried is someone said the next trilogy would be "an original story"... problem with that is the books have the story laid out from Return of the Jedi to 50 + years later. So unless they just go so far into the future that it skips all the books, they'd have to dump the canon to make an "original story", which will piss me off, along with a lot of other fans.

Agreed. Although there is one book, that I would not consider canon, and it was one of the first books written.

Alan Dean Foster wrote a book called Splinter of the Minds Eye. There are a few inconsistencies with it's storyline and how it fits into the movies since it is supposed to happen between IV & V, including an almost fatal (to Vadar) fight between Luke & Vader.
