Smartphone question

So I found out that I am elgible to get a new phone, well Verizon online chat told me if I get a new phone I have to change my data plan to a Verizon plan and I lose my unlimited data:( Alltel plans are no longer honored, unless I never get a new phone or upgrade or break my phone and have to replace it or activate any phones. Does anyone who has Verizon with a Smartphone ever gone over their data plans? The most I have ever used was 2.2 GB in a month.

you can keep your grandfathered plan if you want to buy purchasing a phone outright and adding it to your account.

You can get an almost brand new Iphone 4s for like 350 which is roughly 200 over your price but it will stop you from having to change plans and increase your rate...

That wont work because he still has an AllTel contract. He cant do anything without having the contract switched to Verizon's name. If he was already under a Verizon contract that would work.

Wrong, having worked previously for verizon. All he would be doing is adding the device to the exisiting account he is just changing the electronic serial number with the account. The phone works on the cdma network and will infact work. The alltell network is verizon and verizon is alltell now....

If he wanted the upgrade then he would have to agree to the reduced price that comes with having a contract. the new contract would then overwrite the existing.

I have a verizon plan with 8gigs. I use my mobile hotspot everyday and usually end up using around 5gigs a month. I even play wow, swtor, and watch youtube videos. I am even using it now to use my alienware m14x.

I would not get the iphone 4s. Get the iphone 5. Last i recall, the 4s does not have 4g. Of course, I use droids and they have had 4g for a while.

I have 2 unlimited lines. One for my smartphone, and one for a USB 4g Modem for travelling with my laptop. I've never gone over, but I suppose I would if I was not near an internet connection for a long period of time.

It all depends on your habits. If you want to get an LTE phone and you stream video services like Netflix fairly often, you're going to use a lot of data. I'm up to 7GB on just my phone already, no tethering. The iPhone 4S is not classified as a 4G phone but it is HSPA+ which means it can achieve speeds in range of 4G. But the iPhone 5 is LTE and will get faster speeds if you're in an LTE city.

As far as I know, any upgrades on Verizon require a new contract and new data plan. But driyac is correct, you can buy a phone off contract (full price, ebay, or craigslist even) and add it to your plan without having to renew a contract or change off of unlimited data.

Damn that sucks my wife has upgraded her phone a couple of times since the 3gs and they never remove her unlimited, it could be because of the 2 companies merging but I am sure if you use the right wording they will make it happen.

going to 4g will automatically enroll you into a new contract no matter if you try to grandfather it in or not.

Also you could try to use the go to another provider but they may not send you to the customer retention line as your plan is 3 years old.

Like I said before, You will need to buy a phone outright. That is what ebay is for...

if you pay full price for the phone they wont take your unlimited data plan, and no on the over data question
