It better not have any form of AFM in the corvette or there will be alot of people trading cars right after they buy them Im for stop start tech but cylinder shut off no way not in a vette.

There is no 5.5L Gen V V8. It's a racing-only displacement. Gen V will retain the current 5.3L and 6.2L displacements.

I thought the 5.5L (in a production vehicle) rumors had been repeatedly squashed, that it's only for Corvette racing? I also have to agree about the AFM thing, it's fine for certain applications, but in a pony/muscle/sports car (i.e. Camaro, Corvette, upcoming SS sedan), no.
Argh! Fen, you posted while I was typing.

5.5l is the maximum displacement allowed in the GT class that Corvette Racing runs in. They just built a 5.5l version of the 6.2l Gen V so they could beat the hell out of it on the track for a season and make it better for us on the street.

Note it says "from supplier sources" in what you highlighted. This is a long, long way from "confirmed"

I wouldn't be surprised if all sources of the next gen 5.5L V8 were eventually traced back to a guy who overheard a couple snippets of a conversation. He tells one of the buff books, and it spreads from there.
as for the gen Vs, I would not be surprised if GM the new 5.3L becomes a lot more visible, becoming the base V8 in Camaros & Corvettes and consolidating the small (5.3L and less) V8s in trucks. That would leave the 6.2 for high performance cars (Z06) or, in a slightly altered form, as the big gas V8 in trucks. Personally, I'd go with 3 displacements (4.9L, 5.7L, and 6.5L (396 cu)), but I'm not in charge at GM.

I believe the rumors trace back to Tadge Juechter talking about the C6.R's 5.5L V8. Everyone latched onto it for whatever reason as the new Gen V displacement.
And I also know what engines are going into the trucks next year.

5.5L is a guess-only at this point.
There's been nearly as much speculation that it'll stay 6.2L... |
