'64 Chevelle SS VIN# 1

So, my dad went to a guys house for a job. This guy lives in the middle of no where back in the woods...has a crappy house...about the side of a 1 room apartment. Then...he brought my dad to his garage. He said he nearly shit myself. There he had sitting was a Ferrari Italia, 67 camaro SS, then a few other classics, then there was a beautiful Chevelle. My dad walked up to it and looked at the engine and discovered he was looking at VIN# 0001 (it was a plaque plated on the engine). I believe 64 was the first year they had a 396. It has 3 miles on it. Never been driven. He said it was in perfect condition. So...I am curious...what in the world would this be worth?

Wow some pics would be nice. The 396 wasn't an option in the Chevelle until 1965. A 0001 car with 3 miles is unreal.

Just called my dad. In 64 they put out like 500 of them or something before they went into full production in 65. So it was indeed a 64. No pics. I told him next time he is there to post the pics of the speedometer, vin#, and the car.

Here is the first Z16 (396 option) Chevelle. Notice it is a 1965.
The story on the bottom of the page says only 200 396 Chevelle's were made at the time and all were GM prototypes.
I guess it's still possible that a 396 prototype was made in 1964. If it's true and the car your dad saw was VIN 0001 for 1964, the car would probably be worth more than this VIN 0001 1965 model.
The value on cars like this is determined by how much someone is willing to pay. One thing is for sure.....6 figures...easy!

I agree with LimaCharlie, starting bid at $500,000 if it was at Barrett-Jackson.
