Pretty sad when you can fit $17.50 or more into a motorcycle. Three and a half years ago, I filled an SUV that was down to 1/4 tank for about that.

Honestly, I thought it was more than 17. Maybe they are simplifying.

California has very unique boutique fuel blends that very few refineries are setup to handle, which means losing just one refinery have about the same effect in California as the nation in general losing half of them (think when Katrina hit times 2) all at once.

And not just on price. All the additives and other special crap added to their formulations in all likelihood result in reduced miles per gallon compared to simpler formulations, so not only do you pay more per gallon, you go fewer miles on every gallon.

something interesting to note.. an oil company makes anywhere from 6-8 cents a gallon profit, but Federal and State government makes 30-60 cents a gallon with zero risk. add the gasoline taxes and inflation together and thats why it costs so much

Ca leads the nation in regulations that eventually trickles down to the other states. Wisconsin will eventually be paying too.

And I'm willing to bet they will be the first State to be asking for a Federal bailout. Businesses and working people are leaving that State in droves.

5 years ago I could fill my motorcycle tank up for less than 10 bucks. If I remember right it was around 7-8 dollars. It was awesome. I fill up once a week for my commute. Even at 15 bucks which is almost double...it's not too bad...but I miss those good old days when I can spend 8 bucks and go ride with my buddies all day morning till night.

Cali's been having issues for so long, it amazes me people didn't start leaving sooner. Always thought my aunt was more than a little ditzy when she moved out there "oh they pay so much better for teaching positions!" Well yeah, but they cost of living equals out, so she might as well have stayed in Iowa

I have property in Texas but they are investment properties. I would totally sell my house here if I can find a job that pays the same there and move into my rental. But I'll be honest though. I do visit DFW once in a while to check up on my rentals and it can not hold a candle to CA night life.

I find it horrible that this also applies to other things like gun control. Many other states don't give a crap about CA gun control laws because it doesn't affect them. They write us off as those "weirdos" that are beyond saving. Well sorry to break it to you guys, but it will come right around and kick you right in the @ss. So people need to stop having that mentality.

My wife filled up our Cruze on base (Beale) last night for 4.29. It looks like my Camaro's going to be living in the garage for a while. :(

That sucks guys. It burns me up to pump gas for $3.50 a gallon. No reason gas prices should be as high as they are.
Maybe not a national story...could be a very long newscast if crews had to report on every local gas station running out of gas. Crazy though, I haven't even heard about it, and I'm here in SoCal. Gas is $5.12 on Camp Pendleton. Last 3 days, 40 cent jump. Just awful! What I mean by that is SoCal is a HUGE place. A couple of gas stations shutting down in Simi Valley and Calabasas is hardly the need for national reporting.

edit: Just took a cruise through "so cal" to assess the situation. Passed eight gas stations, all eight 100% pumps open. Talked to Zack and Nic at Carlsbad Chevron...answer "Where the f%$k is Calabassas?" It's all good, can't wait for the Anderson Cooper story about this, though.
