Commits weekly crime

Yeah, I really hope that the regular refs come back because of this, but we'll see.
I found this article and analysis interesting. Not definitive, and as I've said earlier...I believe this play was a lot closer to being simultaneous than people think. The real issue is the non-call of the OPI.

Well, my feelings have never changed. The owners are 'Owners'.
It's THEIR league. Other than the Packers individual franchise, the NFL is not even publicly traded. As far as the officials, they act like they were perfect. They sucked ass as well. Full time officials would be much better. How good can we expect part time refs to be? The NFL wants full time officials and they realize that they can get better officiating (than the regular refs) for the money they are offering. This is the perfect opportunity for them to get it done. If they pay them top dollar now and make them full time then it's only a matter of time before those ****ers strike for even more. If these current refs (the replacements) are made full time then the officiating will only get better. And even better than it's ever been, and affordably. Why should a referee make that much freaking money and benefits? Did they go to school for 8 years and do 2 years of internship to be a ref? Holy shit. 150k is pretty damn good money. 401k is as good as I could hope for. Hell, I have to do it myself. I own a freaking business with all the risks and time involved and wont' come close to that. Point being that they have all the freedom in the world to go work somewhere else. Let's not forget, as bad as it seems now, the problem is that the regular refs sucked anyway. If they were full time it would be WAY better. http://edition.cnn.com/2012/09/25/sp...ute/index.html Quote:
Unbelievable. Once again, people who sign checks on the back and not on the front pissed because the owners won't give up more of their PERSONAL business. So, now we have Players, Refs, Vendors ................ who else is going to blame the NFL for not giving more money away? I hope they all lose their plush gig for good. Over 100k for 16 games a year. Sheesh. Last edited by PQ; 09-26-2012 at 04:25 AM. |

Also, knowing the NFL, they probably have to pay out of pocket for the uniforms and whistles. The referees actually already agreed to having about 10-12 full time refs. The sticking point is the pension vs 401k issue and bringing in more part-time referees. |

Maybe, but one of the reasons the NFL has money is because they are careful with it. Given that the refs right now make about $7500 a game was the figure I heard on ESPN, it's not like they are being pinched.

Commits weekly crime

Point is, with reflection there are many that are seeing the NFL's side of this particular call. This doesn't change the overwhelming bad calls throughout the game and league last weekend though. That still needs to be addressed and fixed.

ESPN Sports Science just showed why it was an interception. An overwhelming majority of people and players know it was. Of course the NFL is going to back the refs on it and say it was the correct call. They look even worse for the lockout if they admit their replacement refs literally cost a team a game.
On a side note, Mortenson reported that the lockout is likely over and the regular refs could be back on the field as soon as Sunday.

The call could have easily been made by one of the regular refs. BUT, would more than likely have been overturned on replay.
In my opinion it was not as bad a call as it looked. But a bad call none the less. |
