It is that expensive because the US trade policies are f'ed up. They put huge tarrifs on their imports and we don't put jack on our imports. The great Republican dream, that and busting the unions, it's like Christmas for them.

What I was trying to say is that someone who knows more about the cost of living etc, if you read my post I talked about that in Australia..maybe it wasn't clear enough.

If $200k = 30K US..that tells us that WE as AMERICANS could buy that 200k car in their prices over there but it would only cost us in reality 35k in OUR money.

So lets say the Average American makes $30k US a year.. that makes a $30k US car seem more attainable..and exactly as attainable at $200k their money.

Now if they make on average say $50k in their money a year, now $200k in their money seems much harder to achieve doesn't it? So thats why, evn though I DID read the thread and saw the exchange rate, it still doesn't tell me what really matters, and that is what kind of cost is $200k to them?

Simpley my point is they need to be making $200k on average a year over there for it to be AS affordable of a car, as it is here. Now I am not sure if that is the case, so people could be freaking out over nothing if they do indeed make that much on average (this was the case in australia, so I assumed the same for over in China) but on the other hand $200k could in fact be a lot of money to them and since I was not "positive" I put "someone who knows for sure can chime in"

I know there are LOTS of people who don't read threads and just post, but all of us out there aren't like that. Thanks for assuming I am an idiot and didn't read tho.

It's not because of the exchange rates.

There's a huge Tariff for vehicles not made in China, plus there's a tax on vehicles with engines over 1.6 litres. I haven't seen anything about 200,000 Camaros, I think that may just be a paying over MSRP for the new model sort of thing.

But from the AP:

"Priced between about $76,100 and $87,100, the Enclave is Buick’s first luxury SUV exported to China.


Dealers are taking “reservations” for the limited edition Cadillac CTS-V, which costs about $160,000, GM said."

So you can see that typically the price ends up being around double. And those prices are American Dollars.
