They were on the same platforms, but had different sheetmetal and the G6 had a slightly different interior design if I remember correctly (minus switchgear). Torrent, G5, and G3 on the other hand were literally just the Equinox, Cobalt Coupe, and Aveo5 with the Chevrolet grilles cut out and Pontiac kidneys in place.

The only common parts on the Solstice and Sky for example were doors and decklid. Most everything else was unique for each car. And Malibu/G6 just a rebadge? Not even close. Only the underbody, chassis and powertrain were common. That isn't a rebadge.

I thought the g series was basically the same as the cobolts. My fiance use to have an 07 g6 gt the car had nothing but problems so she traded it in for a 2012 Malibu which has been an excellent car

The G5 was the same as the 2 door Cobalt, the G6 was based on the same platform as the Saturn Aura and the Malibu. The Malibu was the last to be released and therefore had the most change from the G6 which debuted first.

Hopefully GM will stop making them look like a Toyota from the back.

Another reason why Pontiac was killed off while Buick survives is that owners of competitors to Pontiac tended to hold a negative opinion of the brand. Meanwhile many people had at least some respect for Buick and even if they wouldn't consider the car for themselves, they'd recommend them for friends or family members.
As such, GM would have to invest far more into Pontiac to turn the brand around than they'd have to for Buick. Also, I'd have to disagree with almost everything regarding the Grand Am. I talked with a number of owners before I bought mine and about the only complaint that kept coming back was the electrical system. I haven't had any issues with the erogonomics of it, or the body cladding, or the brakes. From what I've seen on the Grand Am forums, owners seem to prefer the Twin Cam to the EcoTec -although to be fair, forums are never exactly representative of the general population.
