Well, today's my official release from the Marine Corps. I've been on 73 days terminal leave. Still have 29.5 days to "sell" back to the Corps. 22 years, 2 months, 7 days...it's over! Semper Fidelis Marines! GunnyG is no longer standing post.

There is an upside to that too brother.....you no longer have that filter on that prevents you from unleashing a verbal assault on some officers wife thats cuts in front of you in the Commissary...LMAO!

Didn't think about that. You're right! I knew there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Screw it, I may just park in some CO's parking spot later on too. LoL

Luckily we live right outside of Camp Pendleton now. Planning to move, and there's a reserve Air Force base nearby. She's gonna have to do that alone. Once is enough for me.

Ha Ha... wanna bet. Sponsor has to be present, show ID and sign...

All we have here in Houston is reserve units and that's even worse.

Also would be nice if you could leave CA for 6 months and then come back. They are going to tax your retirement if you can't get out of dodge for a bit. But that's not always possible.

Yeah, that's what the lady told me unless my wife has POA..which she does. So, we'll see if they et her go at it alone.

They've been taxing my base pay for all these years, I guess they'll take a chunk of the retirement too. Now, state of CA gets a piece. My home state is MO, but tomorrow I become a California-ite.

It goes by fast, trust me. Never too early to start preparing. Good luck, thank you for your service, and :flag2:

Yup POA will work. (death will too) You'll find no one in the civilian world looks at the exp. date anyway. I think my wife went 2 years before getting a new one.

When I was stationed at Edwards AFB CA I claimed TX (no tax). Home state was AZ. I did pay state taxes in Louisiana so my son would qualify for college tuition programs.

Speaking of taxes... I will say one thing since you are newly retired. Speak to a retiree or local VA office (if not already) and get an exit physical done at the VA so you can qualify for disability or at least get things documented for later in life. I think you have a year, but will need your medical records for the review. This will save you both federal and state taxes for simple things like hearning loss. Retirement pay stays the same but some just becomes tax exempt.
