It seems to me like the guy was faking the problem. He claimed to have had the brakes floored and the car in neutral too. I call B.S. Somehow he even managed to swerve off the runoff ramp and avoid hitting the crush barriers designed to slow runaway vehicles and after that he managed to stop.

Fake.

Fake, just like all the crap Prius stories. Brakes are designed to stop a car even with a good dose of throttle. Stupid drivers!

I just thought of the most perfect excuse, for some top speed runs. "The gas pedal got stuck, HELP! HELP!"

If it happened to me the brake pedal would be broke from me slamming it and the key broke off in the ignition. I mean really, if you cant figure it out dont drive a car. I recently had a mat stick on my throttle in my little chevy and I just turned the damn thing off.

Machinery isnt complicated.

Maybe auto manufacturer's will start installing a generic looking home light switch in cars.

If the accelerator gets stuck, flip this switch:

electronics...they are taking over everything.

Remember what started the Toyota "stuck throttle" investigation? If I recall correctly, a cop or CHP officer in CA with his whole family in the car with him, died in a San Diego fwy because the throttle got stuck in his Toyota and no matter what he did, the car kept going? 911 was on the phone while he was swerving and avoiding cars at 100mph until more or less, ran out of free road and crashed, killed everyone in the car. That was a cop, trained in emergencies and reaction. Nothing he did worked. Electronics took control of the car.

If he was a cop, where was his gun? If nothing was working, I would have started shooting every electronic device in the vehicle until the car learned its place in the food chain...

A-little-perspective: I noticed those things and agree

I one time had to go pick up a car that wound up in/under a person's front porch. Apparently the driver (who lived across the street) put the car into reverse to back out of his driveway. The gas pedal in his Toyota Camry was stuck at WOT and rocketed him across the street, through the lawn and into the porch. Car was totaled out and he blamed it on the current (at the time) Toyota gas pedal sticking story. Wasn't until they looked at the model year and found it was too old for problem, then the driver admitted he may have stepped on the gas thinking it was the brake...

So he drove for 25 miles with a stuck throttle..... I think the only thing truly stuck was his head up his butt. I think anyone with common sense would figure out to turn off the key or put the car in neutral before he burned out his brakes, say in the first 30 seconds....

Wonder if anyone will suggest we ban cars? They are obviously far too dangerous for the ordinary citizen. /sarcasm

Actually, I've been saying for a LONG time that the process to get a driver's license needs to be severely overhauled and made much more difficult.

Too many idiots can pass the DL test, as evidenced by these stories...
