What exactly does the ignore list do?

Does it make it so you can't see anything the ignored person posts? Or does it just make it so you're not notified if they post in a thread you subscribe to?

You're notified of when they post in a thread, it's just that when they do post, it says "Blahblahblah is on your ignore list. To remove blahblahblah click here." or something like that.
