Good morning

Hey, we might have crossed paths over there in HI!! I just got back Saturday morning from 9 days over there. Went to the PH Memorial on the 13th. Stayed at the Hale Koa Hotel. We love Hawaii (First went there in 1970 on R&R from Vietnam and stationed at Hickam 1988-1993) and would love to retire there (after I win the Powerball, that is). Notice all the Camaro convertibles overthere?? I think they finally outnumber the Mustangs now.
Small world Just may have.Leave late tonight. Yeah the amount of 5th Gen Verts is crazy here. But what better place to use them. In our small parking garage at hotel there was 6 Yellow and Silver alone last nt. Parking spaces sure are tight in many areas on Oahu. Would be scared to park the car anywhere here. We picked up an Impala that has door dings all over. The Enterprise Agent said "You may get more. As long as they are smaller than golf ball size, no problem"

When I was there about 30 years ago the Polynesian Cultural Center had an evening show where dancers from all the different Pacific Islands did their traditional dances.
Looks like we won't have enough time to hang around for that tonight:( Did see a good Luau that did a similar thing. Love the culture.

Oh, sorry you didn't get to the 'Cultural Center'. The fire dancers are so incredible. Anyway, I finally have time to write up what happened at the Arizona Memorial.

We went to Hawaii in January 1988. Saw lots of sights, went to 4 of the Islands. i don't know if they still do this but when we went they show you a short film before you get on a ferry boat to go out to the memorial. The film shows some photos from both during and after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After we watched the film it was not quite time to board the ferry, so my wife and I went into the gift shop. She found a children's book that she thought she might buy for our kids. She ended up reading the whole thing while standing at the bookshelf in the store. It was about a boy whose father had been killed at Pearl Harbor. He met a little Japanese boy and found out that that boy's father had been killed at Hiroshima. The boys didn't know whether they should hate each other or be friends. In the end they become the best of friends.

The story hit a little bit close to home for my wife because our son is adopted. He is Asian. From Korea. I think my wife shed a few tears while reading the book.

Then we went out to the memorial. My wife was looking out over the water at the sunken remains of the Arizona when this little Japanese lady who was standing next to her said, "Japanese?" I think she was asking if my wife spoke Japanese. My wife shook her head no, so the little lady, in broken English said, "I'm sorry". She was meaning she was sorry for the attack on Pearl Harbor. My wife burst into tears and said, "I'm sorry too." They hugged. About that time I wandered back over to that side of the Memorial and realized what was going on and snapped their picture. You all know the moral of the story....

Anyway, back home and to work only 4 days this week and leave Friday for Chicago to pick up my daughter who has been interning at Loyola University as an archivist for a couple of months and then head to Bloomington, IN to visit other daughter that works for IU. Just so happens I have a free day on August 3rd and, you guessed it, will hit Camaro Fest!! Unfortunately, it will be without the Camaro and will have the Tahoe. More room to place stuff I might buy!! Anyway, I hope to run across a few of you fellow "old farts" while there. So beware of some "old fart" from Oklahoma introducing himself.....

There will be at least one other Okie there, maybe more. I live in Georgia now, but I'm an Okie!

He was sharp as a needle. Remembered talking to me yesterday had another great conversation. He had served in 3 wars. His brother was paralyzed during the first wave at PH. They were just coming back from the Northshore and gave me the name of a Restaurant to try. We exchanged information and will stay in touch. They now live in GA. What an honor and pleasure. will always remeber this. Goosebumps typing this.

Rise & shine folks. This is the first time I have had the last & first post of the day here. I dread the first day back to work after a week off but anticipation of C5 Fest is lessening the blow. HAGD everyone.

So true!

Now I'm inspired to place my cat in a laser vortex! I must recreate these conditions in the lab!

Yes, parking is a bit of an issue in Waikiki and door dings common with rentals, I'm sure. I noticed that at least one rental company was placing a protective side moldings on their Camaros. Talk about wrecking the look of a beautiful car!!

Maybe I'll see you there!! Once an Okie, always an Okie, so I'm told. I'm a transplant, originally grew up in Chicago, but the USAF and FAA had given me the "now I don't know where I'm from" problem. No complaints though. We've loved the moving and all the experiences that go along with it, but since we've been here for 10 years, I guess I'm officially an Okie now!!
