GM likes to brag about all the cars it makes that get 30 miles per gallon but it is still a long way from 39 mpg. It has already announced it is discontinuing its five high-performance models. Expect other high-horsepower models like Camaro to vanish as well.

Anyone for a four-cylinder Corvette?"

I heard about this and I do understand the deal about it being an average of the cars they manufacture etc.... Well, at least I understand most of it I think, but this is another reason I want to get my Camaro soon and enjoy it as much as I can.

Before regular gas is $10 a gallon and I can only afford to fill it up once a month because half the vehicles on the road are alternative fuel, electric or hybrid.

I mean it may not happen for a while now, but it is going to happen and I think sooner than later.

Need to enjoy my Camaro while I can still afford to enjoy it.

He isn't a CNN reporter... CNN regurgitated the piece. The writer is Senior Editor for Fortune Magazine.

The GM announced performance cars that were dropped from production is true. The writer is 'speculating' that the Camaro could be dropped after a bankruptcy. But we all know that they'll keep Chevy, and its two icons, the Cam and Vette in production. It wouldn't make sense to kill them right now.

The portion about the CAFE standards, does have people worried. Especially for the Vette. Many, many car analysts are worried about its future with the CAFE standards. Will it become a supercharged V6? or a small light car like the Lotus Elise? Its hard to talk about the Vettes future without worrying about the Camaro SS as well.

For purist enthusiasts, the motor vehicle future looks very bleek. Much like the late 70's when we may got a bunch of light, underpowered rice burners, shoved down our throat, because of the Gov EPA standards, coupled with safety standards were born. We had 35-40 MPG cars back then. They were extremely dangerous, very small, very slow, very fragile, and basically would randomly spontaneously combust. Remember all those Gremlins, Pintos, Chevettes, Bobcats, and Pacers? That's where we may be headed again...

These new regs are only bad news

Gonna see a HUGE Jump in gas prices (Gas companies will use the excuse that demand has dropped off...so they will increase price to compensate)
Bigger prices for cars of less quality.
No Competition which will equate to mediocre cars (not what american cars need)

While american car companies are going to be pounded by congress and obama...all the imports will keep runnin the way they are and will easily build cars that will tower over american manufacturing.

I do not know why obama is pushin this so hard and congress is accepting this.

Green Is Stupid...Global Warming is retarded.

Think about it....you can put a 5lb bag of ice into a cooler then close it...then put the cooler at room temp...The ice is still gonna melt. Ice does not defy the natural laws. Ice is going to melt no matter what. Why do you think we came out of an ice age....the ice melted away...lol...I laugh at all the Al Gore maniacs....yes its good to respect the environment...but do not take a lemon and then make a citrusy bomb out of it. rediculous.

Even in the worst case scenario if they banned all V8'(which they couldnt because V8's play to vital of role in economy as workhorses, they not only provide pull assets for our boats and trailers, etc. V8's are used in business) I am pretty sure they talking gas guzzler performance cars. Even if they did what you currently owned would be safe, when something is banned you usually can keep what you have, what they call pre ban. Also for these bans to take place take a few years. But I would just enjoy what you have, because minus any sort of ban, 30 years from now we might not even be running on gasoline anymore. finding gasoline might be very tough. Its evoloution, people were sad when they gave up horses as well, just the way it is. Not that I am against cars or the camaro, just look at history. If you think about the basic concept of the car hasnt changed since its inception(of course there has been huge improvements but all in all its the same concept) and in the next 50 years I would guess there is going to be a huge change in personal transportation.

It's 1969 all over again- the Govt. is going to kill the supercars before they get 2 model years out.

Remember the 1970 LS6 Chevelle? 3 years later the 73 Chevelle was a dismal joke of a car. One reason I ordered now.

Ok, I'm just trying to be an alarmist like all the guys that cancelled orders to buy a Lexus or Mustang.

although back in the day those cars were the most guzzling bad performing cars ever. yeah they had hp and all but the engineering in the motors was ancient.

As far as I know, CTS-V is not going anywhere...Cadillac's performance division is supposedly separate from GM HPVO.

Future GM performance

When they announced the end of Pontiac followed by the bankrupting of GM several so-called wise people in the industry speculated that the end of Corvette, Cadilliac CTS and Camaro was near.

If anything, the more the media spouts off this stuff, the more people order and buy these cars.

Who knows how it will all wash out in the end? I'm just glad that I ordered my Camaro when I did instead of waiting for the 2011 like I had originally planned.

Yeah its an average, it doesnt mean every car and truck need to get 39mpg or 30mpg. It means their whole line of car and trucks need to average 39mpg and 30mpg.

It means they can still have cars with 20-25mpg as long as their average is at 39mpg.

I dont know about the camaro but Im 100% positive nothing is going to happen to the vette.

It doesn't matter. The EPA mileage doesn't equal the CAFE mileage. The Camaro's EPA mileage is 24/25. The CAFE mileage is like 35 so its practically there. CAFE is a big joke made to shut the hippies up.
