Angry do not diSS

Before my young muscle car eyes were opened by the beauty that is the Camaro concept, I was a proud Cobalt driver. I got one in 2005 and planned to make my first new car a car with a reputation. I was going to make it fast, but tuning for the ECM and PCM never became available for the 2005 base model. In effect, I bought my bolt-ons to get those few extra horses, always wishing I had the SS. For me, the SS was a symbol of pride that commanded respect. Because my car interest was young, I ignored the greater cars, knowing that I would have to learn to walk before I could run. I've learned a great deal since then. The Cobalt was a great start because it allowed me to learn the basics. As I learned more, I grew interested in the SS and the differences between my mere base model and the great Super Sport that I had placed on such a pedestal. It was wonderful for learning, but the community grew full of trolls and hostility. Soon, infighting began, targeting Neon SRT4 owners, Civic Si owners, GTO owners, and ever Camaro owners. This disgusted me. All these varieties were respectable machines that took years to develop and design.

Recently, discussions have cropped up on many car enthusiast forums regarding the role of the SS in Chevrolet's lineup. This thread is not intended to discuss that. I took the perspective that the SS is a function of capitalism; that competitors have top-of-the-line badges and Chevrolet is obligated to follow suit by making a classy, powerful sport version of an existing car. While you may disagree with this, it explains why economy platforms like the HHR and Cobalt get the same badge that great Novas and Chevelles once bore.

I just wanted to know if disrespecting Chevrolet's corporate decisions bother you as much as it did me. The original thread is offsite. I just figure that Chevrolet's superiors act in accordance with both competitive business and traditions that contribute to Chevy car culture. These guys seem to think that they are less culturally motivated. I guess I have a different perspective with people like fbodfather contributing so much to our community—thanks again fbodfather for giving us so much. Anyway, I was just wondering if such blatant disrespect for Chevrolet is a problem for you guys, especially since these guys are Chevy drivers, too.

I fixed the link. I typed "http://" after the "http://" because I'm a genius.

I'm still The_Blur, basically the only guy defending the SS emblem and GM as a whole.

You are not the only one, I just posted this on the Cobalt forum.

Quote:
I have to agree that GM used the SS too much and this is coming from a 2.4 SS owner. GM even said they did, but if you look at this years line-up, there are only three with the SS badge. The Impala, the turbocharged HHR and the soon to be released turbocharged Cobalt. And next year you can add the Camaro to that list, I think GM is doing what they can to fix the title of SS. While the SS was a little overused, I don't think it has been forever tainted. JMO

Mine is a '07, so it has the SS on the side. I would of bought the S/C model if it came in four doors and an auto, it is technically my wife's car.
