Not a good day
Well today offically sucked. I found out this morning before I went to work that my wife's fuel pump was leaking fuel as she smelled gas around the car, called the dealership and it's $900 to fix it, 2007 Chevy Equinox so I called AAA and towed it to the dealership so they could fix it. Then around 1pm the service tech calls me and tells me the front left axle seal was leaking too so he says it's $300 to fix it and I negotiate him down to $250. So I paid almost $1200 this morning (and it wasn't even for my ZL1) before going to work. Then on the way home it was raining here in SoCal (WTF, rain in the middle of July!?) and I'm pulling off the freeway to go home and this cop gets behind me and follows me for about 2 min and I'm thinking "I should turn somewhere cuz he sure looks mighty bored following me so slowly" and then sure enough, his lights go off. He says "I stopped you because your window tint is too dark and it looked like you rolled your windows down when you saw me". I told him, "No ...I had them down before you got behind me because it's humid in this car because of the rain." Then he goes on to lecture me about being able to see behind me and the importance of visual safety and I told him, I have never had problems seeing out of this car at day or night as it's only 25% and I specifically got this tint so it didn't cause me problems like this as it's hot here in SoCal and my car sits in the sun all day at work. He didn't care about my explanation, he looked like he was trying to fill a quota for the day so he wrote me a fix it ticket for the tint...it's not even that dark it's only 25% on the sides and the back, I can see inside and outside the car just fine and I'm sure anybody with 20/20 vision can say the same thing.
Now I need to find somebody to sign off on this so I don't have to pay $150 on top of the $1150 I just paid today :(...I just got my windows tinted last weekend too since they messed up the first time (the guy ended up getting fired after I complained about how bad of a job he did) Anybody on C5 living in SoCal know somebody who can sign off on the ticket? I will repay your services in ice cold brewery |

You can't limo tint the back windows? Even up here we can do that, just not all that much for the driver/passenger windows. Does sound like a bored cop trying to make his quota.

Sorry to hear, but I never, ever argue or try to explain too much to an officer. I just respect them and say yes sir. It's like sports, even when you are right, you lose because the ref has the say.
I can't believe the prices to get things fixed. This is why I try to do as much of my own work as possible. I hope you can get the ticket taken care of and you get on a GOOD luck stretch! |

Just tinted mine. I have darker tint in the back window and the little back side windows. The drivers and passenger side are tinted 35%. That's what I was told 35% is legal. You can go a little darker on the back. Mass law. The tint is nice and enough and I did not want any hassle.

You should post in the so cal section, I'm sure there are a couple of law enforcement officers that are willing to help you out.

Can't you just take the traffic to court and show them documentation that your tint is legal so it can be dismissed. It sounds like the officer may have been following you looking for a reason to pull you over and see if there was something else more serious to site you for. Sorry to hear about the $1200 repair. Money always finds a way to spend itself even if you don't find a way to spend it.
