Look at one of my babies, Atlantis. All nice and warm in the VAB. This is a snapshot of her from one of the video cameras right now.

It was just my opinion. I think they had been used passed their safe lifespan. The accidents and problems the last 10-15 years really hurt NASA, and held back researching serious alternatives.

My opinion.

I think we should've. We'd keep Endeavour with her only being 19 years old. NASA was trying to keep Atlantis and Endeavour after they retired for shuttle missions once or twice a year, but Obama said let them go.

I love the shuttles, why I went to space camp. Actually helped "design" (for fun) the iss there also. It's fun to look at our plAn and see how it has actually been built.

Our plan was to use the russian rockets, lol

In the last 10-15 years? Columbia was the only one in that time frame, and that wasn't even much of a wear and tear issue, more a freak accident.

Actually, none of the orbitors were used to their full lifespan. None of them were even used to half their lifespan. Each orbitor had a lifespan of 100 missions. The most missions one orbitor did was 39, and that was Space Shuttle Discovery.

Like I've said before, Columbia didn't break apart because she was a shtty orbitor, or was old. Columbia was a great orbitor. Even if she was 22 years old. She broke apart because of foam from the ET during her launch several days earlier. The foam pieced her left wing while it was travelling +1,000 MPH. None of the orbitors were designed to be able to enter the atmosphere with 3,000 degree heat with a hole in their wings.

The Challenger accident had nothing to do with the orbitors fault either. Infact, Challenger had nothing to do with its destruction. It was the SRBs that broke Challenger apart.
