Good morning All. Gee wizz I hate it when they change my meds. I have been taking prevacid for years & it worked just fine. Then it went over the counter, more expensive but and I had to take 2 smaller capsules instead of one larger one but still fine. Then I couldn't find it for a while & had to scramble. A Sam's pharmacist gave me a bunch of samples that were about to expire and when they ran out I tried prilosec which was almost as good but not quite. Now they come out with a 24 Hr version. Still smaller caps but supposed to last 24 hrs. IT IS NOT WORKING. Now I don't know if it is still too low a dose even though it lasts 24 hrs and am not sure if I can take 2 or not, plus 2 a day now will again be more expensive! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Both Prilosec & Prevacid have always been 24hr forms. Nothing changed, it's an advertising gimmick. You can take either one twice a day, but make sure your doc knows you're doing it. High doses long term have been associated with esophageal cancer... I would suggest asking your doc for a prescrition for Protonix (generic is pantoprazole, it's fairly inexpensive). It has fewer drug interactions, may work once a day for you. If your insurance balks at it, your doc can call and tell them you've failed Prevacid and Prilosec. Another option is to take Prilosec or Prevacid in the morning and Zantac (also available as an OTC generic) at night. They work by different mechanisms, so it might do the trick! Hope you feel better soon!

Happy Friday back atcha everyone, even if today is my hump day. Sunday's my Friday, and what with the 4th on Wed, I get a 3 day weekend! I am taking Trigger to a car show on the 4th, so I will have 2 days to spruce him all up and see how we do.
