Actually I think we pay more for Canadian gas and oil then our friends down south pay for our gas and oil. I think it's part of the Canadian "free" health care tax..lol....because remember kids nothing is really free.

Ok so maybe I understand the 'buying power' theory and all but explain this part:

"Based on the manufacturer's suggested retail prices, the two-wheel drive Toyota Rav4 would cost $22,650 in Honolulu, with an additional charge for freight and pre-delivery inspection (PDI) of $810."

"A resident in Woodstock, Ont., however, would pay $24,865, plus a freight and PDI charge of $1,465, for the same model, despite the Rav4 being manufactured in Woodstock."

Sounds like the Competition Bureau has a valid case on their hands.

Does this take into account the difference in currency?

Could it have something to do with the government there? In Europe, and other places, the government increases prices on cars they don't want people to buy. Canada has a Eurpean style government...maybe...

We are on par for currency exchange currently. No material difference.

How can an Impala, built in beautiful downtown Oshawa, be shipped to SoCal with a $900 Sunroof, while the next one built gets delivered to Ontario Motor Sales (in another part of beautiful downtown Oshawa), almost across the street, with a $1340 Sunroof?

Freight to SoCal? Less than $1,000.

Freight to OMS? $1,500.

Yes, I know, freight is equalized throughout the country. But 50% EXTRA for Freight IS a LOT of "freight".
