What I have so far

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen – I’d like to thank everyone that’s made it here to share the Bride and Groom’s big day. Some of the guests knew that I’d be speaking – and still decided to come, so a special thanks to you in particular. For those of you that don’t know me my name is Derek Simon and I have known Zach for as long as I can remember and where neighbors for the majority or our childhood. I'd like to say that what a genuine honor it is to be Zach's best man today. I appreciate that I am just one of many equally suitable close friends that he could well have chosen. When Zach asked me to be his best man, naturally I had many questions. What had I done to deserve such an honor? Who had dropped out at the last minute? Was I really the best he could come up with? Could I turn the job down and still expect an invitation to stuff myself and get drunk at his expense?
In the end, having accepted the role, I’m pretty happy with the way things went today. From a best man’s perspective, everything went smoothly. For starters, I got him to the church on time, which is a miracle for Zach, and until this morning he didn’t know what a church looked like. He also arrived sober, an achievement which shouldn't be underestimated. And most importantly in this time of economic uncertainty, I successfully resisted the urge to post the wedding rings to Cash For Gold and do a runner. Well done me.

On behalf of the bridesmaids and groomsmen, I would like to thank Claire and Zach for giving us the opportunity to be involved in their unique and special day. I know they have both put a tremendous amount of effort in to the planning of this wedding, and can only hope that, apart from this speech, everything has exceeded their expectations.

Ladies and gentlemen, it now it gives me immense pleasure to invite you all to stand and raise your glasses in a toast to Zach and Claire - Mr. and Mrs. Webb. We wish them well for the future and hope they enjoy a long, happy marriage.

A wise man once told me there are the 3 rings to marriage:
1. Engagement Ring
2. Wedding Ring
3. Suffer-ring
