Yeah I know...Maybe it is like our Camaro's and will clean up a bit when you drive it. Right now they are clean with no rust/dust on them but I figure they will rust up a bit when washed.

Well returned from my fishing trip and had a great time, caught some fish, caught some sun and caught a great time so I was pleased.

Mr Hyde is coming along quite well.......Intake is installed along with the throttle body. Alot of brackets had to be made for the throttle cable and transmission kickdown cable since nothing transferred from the old unit, BUT the motor is sealed up. We measured the throttle and kickdown cables last night and they are being cut today and we will install them tonight........ So one step closer.

We have a little bit of odds and ends to tie up before we can run it, probably take a couple of evenings this weeks to get them tied up but progress is a good thing.

Good deal! I got your message with the fish. Some of us had to hold down the fort while others got to fish with a pro

Glad you had a good time!

Mike is was great to meet you as well....glad the SS worked out good for you.

Got everything buttoned up on the motor last night and will hopefully crank and run it tonight. Then we will have to check the tune to make sure everything is good....so hopefully I will get to drive it this weekend barring any hold ups...This way we will be able to tell if there are any other issues.

Great news! Did you get an air cleaner for it yet?

I have not as of yet...We are gonna have to see what works. The new brackets we had to install for the linkage of the throttle and kickdown cable is higher than a normal carb since it is a throttle body. Since it is only used for air and no fuel it is kinda low profile.....so a round one will not fit unless you put a spacer on the T.B. To me it looks funny that way.....

SO this is what I looked at today......The throttle body I have but thinking about putting this scoop/air cleaner on it.

You're going to run into a linkage issue with that one as the butterflies are functional. I just get a kick out of knowing you get to drive it this weekend!

I hope not...we checked it last night to see if it would be a solution.....The linkage that comes from the Air cleaner to the TB is a bent rod and based on the pictures it should line right up.

From what I was told today the only thing that they would recommend would be adding a return spring so that it would close properly....Plus this should cover up some things that I wanted hidden.

The issues is the bracket that holds the kickdown and TB cables it is kinda high so to clear it with a round air cleaner, which I do like, you would have to add a 1 1/2" spacer on top of the throttle body so it would touch the linkage.......we are going to try and lower the bracket tonight to its lowest position to see if that helps with clearance issues but my idea of a 2" spacer on top of the TB doesn't look to good..

Oh, cool. Well that would look pretty cool sitting on top of the motor!

Just depends on how much it costs...for right now I may just get a 6" air cleaner to be able to test drive it.

We are gonna re-check all the fluids, change the oil and all that jazz...then Matt can check all the engine function stuff on his laptop...hopefully much did not change but I do know that it changed a little since we have so many vacuum leaks before and the readings were not consistent.

Now that we have an intake that is port matched to the heads air flow should be ALOT better, plus we changed the fuel supply a little but any changes needed will be a simple push of a few buttons.

Once he has the basic tune done then we can drive it so he can see what it is doing during normal operating temps, speeds etc......and maybe just maybe all the wiring we did, the re-doing of the gauges and balancing of the tires will allow us to get an accurate speed, with no vibrations and the motor to perform correctly.

ALSO we came up with a solution about the rear tires being too far to the rear. I have ordered a new crossmember from CPP. It allows for it to be bolted in instead of the factory rivets so we will be able to move the rear wheels forward wherever we need them then bolt it down. The only issue with this is I will have to have the driveshaft cut down but that is no big deal. This is something we will do when it goes to get painted so we can have easier access to drill holes etc....plus the new crossmember has holes in the center of it so that you can run up to a 3" exhaust. It allows the pipe to go straight through the crossmember instead of below or above it...much nicer installation.

So you'll do the crossmember deal with the bed of the truck off? Where in the world do you go to get a driveshaft shortened? This is some wild stuff to me.

LOL....I know the feeling....Luckily I have Matt...........When we do the cross member we will take out all the rivets, install the new cross member and move it to where it should be...then we will drill a couple of holes just to hold it in place.

Once we get it to the paint shop and they disassemble it for paint then we can complete that install....Once it has been moved we will measure for teh driveshaft and have it cut down by a " Draftshaft" Shop.

It is the driveshaft shop who builds driveshafts for Matts Boss's race cars. I am just leaving it all up to him.
