Can't speak for the poster, but in Texas and Louisiana the term "4 on, 4 off" typically means someone is working on an offshore rig 28 days at a time with the next 28 days off. Can be hard on the family while gone.....and while at home that much too!

It isn't just the HE. There's not enough room in the valley between the heads to get a suitable I/C constrained even more by the hood on a pushrod engine. I believe the ZL1 will drop 100 HP from heat soak on a hot traack especially a road course. That may be why the ZL1 did not pull the Boss at VIR. I think we will find out the 2013 GT500 is faster on a road course.

True, it also has heads and a cam though. I'm more interested to see what the zl1 can do with an upgraded blower on a stock motor. I'm sure it will be equally impressive, but I find that a more likely mod path for the majority of owners than a h/c setup on the stock blower.

But the ZL1 obviously need more help than a GT500 does with the power difference... I can't believe I'm about to type this...... BUT: I wonder what the total cost of ownership is for a 9 sec ZL1/GT500 Not that we can ever figure it out but something to think about?

I think it would be cheaper for the GT500 to hit 9's considering the 17-18k package it takes to for the ZL1 to hit it.
GT500 did it with bolt ons, tires, gears, and the stock blower. |

I'm sure there will be some cheaper 9 sec builds out there on both sides.

But the number of people that will actually spend additional $ on their car (GT500 or ZL1) for it to have the capability to go 9's is going to be slim. Most people will just do the basic stuff if anything like always: intake, exhaust, tune, gears, etc. |

I'm more interested to see which platform holds up better going 9's... transmission, rear end etc. Where the weak links are for each car, not just engine mods.

These mods to ZL1 engine are more extensive than the 9-sec GT500, however these mods and parts choices enhance reliability which is the proper way to do a 9-sec car. What impresses me the most is the all stock suspension and chassis, GM has designed the running gear to beat on with out K-member reinforcement and sub frame connectors, it appears the extra weight is being put to good use. |

I figure it's definitely going to take engine work or an upgraded blower to run 9s in the z. I think it could be done considerably cheaper with an upgraded blower rather than rebuilding the top end of the motor. On the other hand, the gt500 already has a big enough blower, a solid rear, and almost 100rwhp more from the factory. I think it's going to take very little to put a 500 into the 9s considering the results of just a tune on the 5.8, but we'll see when Evolution releases the info.
